SEPTEMBER 28TH: JILL VALENTINE' S DIARY

in #videogames7 years ago

It all started one day in September. Any day in Raccoon City, a city controlled by the Umbrella Corporation.

The following entries were extracted from an unlockable document of "Resident Evil 3: Nemesis," released by Capcom in 1999 for the first Playstation. This, together with the two previous ones, was the fundamental pillar to establish the saga as an inescapable reference of the classic survival.

However, when you compare their history with that of more recent deliveries, it's easy to wonder... When did it all start going wrong?

Resident Evil 5 and 6 (to count only numbered deliveries), relapse into a plot focused on bioterrorism and the possibility of a pandemic. Some might argue that it was to be expected, taking into account that each game represented an "escalation" over the previous one, from the mansion stages to the city.

Still, the emphasis was on the vicissitudes of its protagonists, people without any extraordinary ability who had to do their best to survive. And even with zombies and biological monsters, it felt real, and even intimate, just the opposite of the impersonal Jill Valentine with supernatural powers of Kijuju.

Unfortunately, we have only shadows left of that wasted universe.

Jill Valentine's diary is an outline of what might have happened if Capcom hadn't abused the sequels, because a video game with a plot similar to Resident Evil: Underworld, S. D.'s novel. Perry, it seemed imminent.

And although many arguments can be made for or against these books, it seems that Perry did understand the extent to which the escalation of the concept could reach without making history suffer, because he stopped novelizing after Código: Veronica, the last great Resident Evil of long ago.

Jill Valentine's Diary

August

August 7th

Two weeks have passed since that day. My wounds have healed, but I can't forget it. For most people, it's history. But for me, every time I close my eyes, I remember everything clearly. Zombies eating human flesh and the screams of my dying comrades. No, the wounds on my heart haven't healed yet...

Chris has been causing a lot of trouble lately. What's wrong with him? He barely talks to the other cops and he's constantly irritated. The other day, he punched Elran from the children's crime department for accidentally throwing coffee in his face. He stopped Chris immediately, but when he saw me, he winked and left. I wonder what happened to him...

August 15th

Midnight. Chris, who has been absent for "vacation," called me and I went to visit his apartment. As soon as I walked into his room, he showed me a couple of sheets of paper. They were part of a report on virus research entitled simply "G". Then Chris said,"The nightmare is still going on." He continued,"It's not over yet." Since that day, he's been struggling alone, without rest, without telling me anything.

August 24th

Chris has left town to go to Europe. Barry told me he'd send his family to Canada and then follow Chris. I decided to stay in Raccoon City for a while because I know that the research facilities in this city will be very important for the whole case.

In about a month or so, I will be meeting them somewhere in Europe. Then the real battle will begin...

September 28th

By day. The monsters have taken over the city. Somehow... I'm still alive...
