Birthday Trip to Rome 03: Castel Sant'angelo and The Bridge of Angels

in #travel8 years ago

This time last year I visited Rome with Victoria to celebrate my birthday. I captured this photo from the top of the cylindrical beauty that is Castel Sant’Angelo. It is situated by the River Tiber, at the end of the Bridge of Angels. The castle dates back to 123 AD and was erected by the Roman emperor Hadrian, a familiar name to fellow Brits. The history of this site is just fascinating, and it is extremely well preserved. One of the coolest features of the castle is the 800m passageway that connects it to Vatican City. It was used as an escape route for many Popes throughout history, but my favourite part is the incredible views of Rome and Vatican City from the rooftop.

Overall, Rome was a much needed break. It was 16 degrees Celsius and sunny in December, so we were able to spend hours strolling the cobbled streets with gelato in hand. So difficult to believe that it was almost Christmas!

Very nice photograph! I really want to see by my own eyes Rome, Milan and Florence, an unique experience! I guessed you had a great Birthday.

It was great, and my second time in Rome. Hope to see Sicily one day 😃
