Epiphany about chainBB.com
As I'm lost in threads working my way through the comments I realize I've gone down the rabbit hole without thinking.
Chainbb encourages commenting.....
Chainbb encourages engagement....
You have to try it I guess to know what I'm talking about. :-)
chainBB is fantastic!
It ensures that posts/threads, that are current & popular, and who are otherwise potentially getting lost, and left to linger away in the dusty old corners of the Steemit archives, remain visible, accessible and relevant - encouraging a deeper engagement & more valuable content stream (both in terms of information and STEEM accrued per thread)
Bullseye hit @jesta
You nailed it.
Am very happy to be supporting this great initiative. Bravo sir!
OK! I am SOLD now.
What do I do next?
Just do what you're already doing - posting, commenting and upvoting, but via chainBB, instead of directly on Steemit.
By doing this you are permitting a % of your every interaction's rewards to be automatically allocated towards the further development, and growth of this platform :)
It really does :)
Posts that have active discussions within them will gain visibility, continuing the discussion as long as participants keep engaging.
I'm excited to see some type of thread subscription functionality and new reply notifications within the chainbb interface.
Is that something happening in the foreseeable future?
I have the basis for the notification system implemented (which you see popup whenever you create a post or edit), but it's not hooked up to notify you of anything else yet. New replies and mentions will hopefully be coming to that at some point in the future.
Thread subscription is something I'll have to look into, I don't have a solid idea of how that would work quite yet. I'd also like to somehow record what you've read so that as you're scrolling, you can see if new posts have been created since the last time you read a thread.
Some type of notification of thread subscription would be a fantastic thing. As well as knowing which posts weren't viewed yet/ which are new etc., if that's even possible. Continue the great work @jesta!
It also let's you do things like this with your steem powered blog or website:

At the bottom of the post, it encourages the reader to visit the forums and join the conversation :)
So just curious, what happens when people abuse the commenting to stay on top? Is there a way to combat this in code instead of flagging?
I've been giving this some thought and I think I have a few solutions. Just for reference, "bump" is the forum term for when a post gets replied to and then jumps to the top. Figured I'd say that because I'm about to use it a lot :)
I'm not sure which of these is the best method - but if the forums are interesting enough for someone to try abusing them, at least I know I'm doing something right!
I'm hesitant to try chainbb. I really want to, I'm just sort of observing at the moment.
I'm 99% sure you have the best intentions and I like the idea that a bump will rise a post to the top. I hope you come up with a solid solution. (I'm sure you will.)
I just was curious because I envisioned a replica of post promotion, "LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME".
Thank you so much for answering my question though! I do have a few more.
No problem! Feel free to ask away whenever. I'm trying to be active on the forums and "dog food" the product with my own experiences.
That sort of repetitive "LOOK AT ME ..." stuff happens on traditional forums a lot too and always has. I'll have to study how traditional forums dealt with the problem as well.
Trusted moderators.
The hope is - if you don't like how someones moderating, you can just start your own with the same data.
Imagine if you could start /r/btcuncensored right now and it actually displayed all of the posts that the mods of /r/bitcoin censor every day.
Okay so sort of like guilds? You just auto follow the mods of your choice? Thinking maybe they should get the tiniest portion of that 15%. Sounds like a lot of footwork.
So true!
I'm surprised how easy it is to find interesting content based on comment interactions which float threads to the top, not based on people I already follow. I'm still not a huge fan of forum style interfaces, but I do realize how they bring interesting content to the surface.
Someone in Steemspeak chat today mentioned that ChainBB would bring to forum installation something that has never occurred before.
Users pre-installed into the system. That will be another revolution. :-)
exactly. It's a lot less like a blog comment section but more of a discussion.
It's exciting. :-)
BOOM! :)
Exactly @steemitqa ... i think it's ideally suited for quick posts and random discussions that don't quite fit on a curated blog.
Edit: The General Discussion forum on most BBS is usually where the action is :)
I know exactly what you're talking about @seablue. I agree 100% :)
Hello guys I tried comment from chainBB. It says you must sign up but guys how to sign up on chainBB
