DISCUSSION:

Jesus is making a point for the second time in this chapter that the disciples were yet to understand. Read vs. 44 again and compare with Matthew 16:21. His coming passion seemed to be irrelevant to the disciples at this time. Reason being that the glory of Jesus had just started to manifest through feeding of the crowds and healing of the demon possessed; events that they recently witnessed. The Matthew account said that Peter rebuked him when he first said it (Matthew 16:22). This time around, the Lord was telling them the same thing and opened by asking them to listen carefully (v. 44). What are those things the Lord is bringing to your attention repeatedly of late? Can you pause and think at this time and take particular note of them?

What were the disciples' reactions on this second occasion of telling them of His impending passion (vs. 45-46)? Read vs. 46-50 again and identify all the appearances of the carnal man in the disciples and how the great teacher gently handled them. How would you feel if you were treated like Jesus by your friends?
