Judgement or Evaluation? Writing with Evaluation!
If you are a writer on steemit.com I urge you to read this:
Any one who does posts on steemit can benefit from this article. So, sit back relax and grab a drink. The value of evaluation versus judgment. Next to every truth stands a lie. One person's ceiling is another mans floor. We can make errors easily in life. People often look at these two words as being the same I am here to tell you they are indeed different.
How do they differ? Judgment or evaluation?
Evaluations are positive. Judgments are negative. Evaluation can come from a point of neutrality. We have the tendency to judge our writing and connect it back to our self worth. If you have a bunch of ideas after brainstorming you could benefit more from evaluation rather than judgement.
One has negativity injected in it and the other does not. Evaluation helps you decided with out any other preconceived ideas from elsewhere. You can decide more effectively and move with a sense of connection to what is going on. Yes, people are born with biases in life, yet we can come from a scientific and objective point of view.
We often can make deliberate errors all the time. We can often perceive something, and in a quick flash we decide our mental models right from our past experiences. We project our mental view of the world as a filter. We look at big writers and say "I need to be like him/her." rather than evaluating what we really need as a writer.
We need another person who can help us review our deficit areas and work on them a bit at a time. Evaluation allows for freedom. It is less limiting. Harsh judgement limits our behavior and often the behavior of other people around us. Take a moment to understand the previous sentence. It is all about discernment, and evaluation rather than judgement. We can look at our writing more effectively this way. People can be naturally biased when it comes to their writing, yet we all can benefit from the objective point of view. We can find areas that we need to work on when we put our skills under a microscope or ask an honest expert.
Phrases like "This is a stupid article I can't believe I wrote it." This is clearly not a self-talk that is functional for a writer.
It points out the harshness and takes away from the idea of "I can improve upon this, or perhaps repurpose it for something else." Get input on your writing and expand on it. Invite others to view your writing. All images below are cited from Pixabay.
One way to become objective with your writing is use the S.C.A.M.P.E.R. method. I take no credit with Scamper as it came from Alex Osborn. Judgement is strictly forbidden in the creative process because we seek to improve. All ideas are welcome the wilder the better. Go for quantity of ideas the more the better. Seek to associate and combine our ideas to improve upon the existing ideas. All quotes from Alex.
Let us look at our writing and ideas and run it through these filters.
Substitute - Can you substitute something in your writing for something else? Can you substitute the character of your story? Can you substitute the title?
Combine - Is there 2 topics you can combine? Can you melt together two cool ideas to make a third unique one? Does it have unique applicability? Can it be applied to your unique situation?
Adapt - Can you adapt one of your old ideas from an older writing piece to a newer one? Is there anything else like this? What would we need to change in the writing reach better posts? What else could be done in this specific piece of writing? How can we improve our writing process? How can we adjust the existing article? How can we make the writing process more flexible? Time schedule etc...
Modify - Can you modify a part of your writing? Can you modify the context of the information? Can you modify the character of your story making small changes? Give it a new angle? Alter the tone, voice, and meaning of your writing. How will modifying the improve results? What if we had a different audience or merged audience type? If the audience was different, what would the writing look like? Can we change the writing to work more efficiently? What if the writing has images?
Put to another use - What are the benefits for the writing if used elsewhere or for another topic? What if we target another market for the current piece of writing? Can we add a specific parts into the process to replace another less desired? What are other ways can we use this writing? Can we recycle the wasted writing efforts for another use?
Eliminate - What would happened if we removed a part of the writing? How can we achieve the same writing without specific part of the article? Do we need a specific part of writing? What would we do if we had to work on less of the article? Less word count?
Reverse - What would happened if we reverse our title? How can we rearrange the current status for better article tags? What if we write it backwards from conclusion to introduction? Can we interchange parts of the writing?
The SCAMPER technique is one of the coolest and creative method for writing problem-solving through a number of techniques. It is starts with (S) substitute, (C) combine, (A) adapt, (M) modify, (P) put to another use, (E) eliminate and (R) reverse. These types can be used to explore from an objective point of view with out judging in your own work harshly.
Try following it. It allows total flow of creativity and helps the structure. Let's face it your creativity is based off of structure or flow.
The next time you throw down the gauntlet in your writing try thinking objectively rather than beating the shit out of yourself.
Let's face it those who judge harshly will always judge themselves just as harshly. Anthony Robbins.
This includes our work and ourselves. Good luck. Sometimes you are going to have bad judgement and make a bad call. You will learn. We just should avoid beating ourselves up.

Thank you very much. All I want to do is help others improve never hurt themselves.
Hello, @screenwriterml,
Thank you for making this clear distinction between judgement and evaluation. I think your piece here will be encouraging to any content creators who may read it.
I also appreciate your sharing of the "SCAMPER" acronym. Mental tools like this are a great addition to our writing arsenals.
