NASCAR vs NFL

in #sports9 years ago

NASCAR got it right this weekend while the NFL got it wrong. After a hectic day on tv, social media, and radio, it is time for everyone to take a deep breath and look back at what has transpired in this country.

It was awesome to see that the drivers, pit crews, and owners stood tall on Sunday afternoon paying respect to our 🇺🇸 and everything it stands for in NASCAR. It was the complete opposite of what was seen on ESPN, Fox, CBS and the NFL Network.
The whole 1st Amendment argument is completely being mischaracterized by many. The 1st Amendment is protection of free speech from the Government. It's not protected free speech from your employer. An employer has the right to fire you for how you act and what you say. Recently at my place of employment, someone was fired for using a racial slur. And the firing was done appropriately. If an owner in the NFL or any other organization sets the standard to participate in the National Anthem and stand and respect the flag, then that is their right. The player may choose to disobey those rules but they may have to deal with the consequences of being benched or released.
Get back to sports and make a REAL difference. FYI, this year there have been 10 African Americans killed by the police, 8 Hispanics, and 13 Whites. And as of yet, those were all justified. But there have been THOUSANDS of African Americans murdered by non-cops. Let's focus our energy first on saving those lives.

Can you share where you pulled your info that led you to state: "this year there have been 10 African Americans killed by the police, 8 Hispanics, and 13 Whites."?

That adds up to 31 killed Year to Date in 2017.

Those numbers seemed very low and a google search brought back a number of 721 Police killings YTD after 963 in 2016. Details Here.

721 is more than 20 times higher than the 31 you list.

No Nascar driver would even think of kneeling for the anthem. They are directly tied to their sponsors and these companies want nothing to do with this. Also the Nascar fans would not put up with it. I go to three races every year and believe me if somebody knelt for the anthem there are enough fanatics that someone would come running out of the stands to stop them. At the very least they would be booed off the track while their car's owner would be on the phone trying to find their replacement.

I feel everyone has the right to protest. Yet I also find kneeling for the anthem very disrespectful to all the courageous men and women who have fought for our freedoms. That's my right as well. The worst part of this whole situation is these protests don't do one damn thing to help solve these problems we face. They have become their own dog and pony show.
