Check out My Deck - I oiled it up!
Rejuvenating the Deck
Many moons ago, I did a post on my renovation journey and replacing the deck on my house: My House - The Renovation Journey – Part 2 – New Deck and Retaining Wall. It was an enormous, yet rewarding job that needed to be done after a small section of the deck had been attacked by termites. The deck itself was in a very poor state and after a closer inspection, could have fallen down at anytime......
Re-furbishing the Deck
Now that the deck is up and finished it needs to be maintained and re-oiled every year. I have been very slack and lazy and have put off the inevitable need to clean, pressure spray and re-oil the deck..... until now.
Here is the deck cleared and ready for scrubbing:
First I hosed the deck down and then added a deck cleaning solution to the boards and scrubbed my arse off! After leaving the cleaner for 20 minutes to do it's job, I then pulled out the high pressure cleaner and hosed each individual board to remove the weathered surface.
After the deck dried, I then applied two coats of Aquadeck to the boards and let them dry between coats for around 2 hours. The final product looks like this:
I think it turned out pretty good.... Hopefully I won't need to redo the deck for another 12 months!
What do you think?
