Artificial Intelligence Can Shorten The Time Needed For An MRI To One Tenth The Time
Artificial Intelligence wants to become prominent in medicine as it wants to reduce the time needed to complete an MRI examination to one-tenth the time needed now.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a technique used in medicine to show the inner organs of the human body. The patient is placed in a very loud machine that can cause some people to feel claustrophobic and in general, it is just not a pleasant experience. Thus any technique that allows for a shortening of the patients time inside the machine is quite useful. The MRI itself creates many images that are essentially cross-sections of the area scanned. And it last quite long – a knee scan takes about 20 minutes, brain scan about half an hour, and a heart scan can last even a whole hour.
Artificial Intelligence could allow us to need much fewer data making the process much faster. At the same time, the informational value of the images should be the same or even higher. The main reason for this is just taking much fewer pictures. The AI will then interpret the conversion data from individual images. This allows for the procedure to happen about ten times faster. The benefits of this are fairly obvious. Not only does it increase the capacity of MRIs so more people can get examined and it also means the patients need to spend much less time in the machine.
Of course, the question now is whether using fewer images isn’t risky and whether the AI will interpret the images correctly. What if something critical like a small ligament rapture or a tiny tumor will be missing. But if the scientists can find that the AI interprets the data correctly then this issue will be solved.
