Classic Mega Man Speedrun Practice! Mega Man 3 Part 01: Top MansteemCreated with Sketch.

I will be tackling the Mega Man 3 speedrun as a learning project, using the Top Man 1st route. I'll be going in mostly blind, but I do know the basics of speedrunning classic Mega Man games. I'm still very much a newbie when it comes to this, though.

I'm a good classic Mega Man player casually, but as a speedrun, they're unfamiliar territory for me.

Thought this would make for a fun thing to spend some time on, so I got myself the practice ROM for Everdrive.

The basics, and especially the slide mechanic, are so different here than the dash movement in the X series that it's a serious departure from my comfort zone, for sure.

God like gameplay is not to be expected here.

I just like doing these videos, a few people enjoy watching them, and grinding these recordings is easily the best and most fun way for me to practice and learn this stuff.

If people are interested, I can go more in-depth in some of the strats and stuff I do.

Top Man's stage is the 1st stage in the route, so it's pretty basic. Just a lot of mashing to get through the enemies, especially the two large cats. I don't give the best performance here by any means, but doing the Mega Man X1 intro stage so many million times has given me a decent enough mash, I think.

The main thing about movement, obviously, is that Mega Man's slide is twice his walking speed, so the amount of slide time needs to be maximized whenever possible. That makes movement tricky since Mega Man can't shoot and slide at the same time, so you need to be calculating with when to shoot and when to slide, etc.

Definitely a lot to learn, but this was fun.
