In den nächsten zwei Artikeln will ich eine typische Übungssituation der QRA, oder Alarmrotte aus der Perspektive eines Zuschauers am Zaun des Flugplatzes Neuburg an der Donau (ETSN) in einer Fotostory schildern.

In the next two articles I want describe a typical practice situation of the QRA, or Quick Reaction Alert from the perspective a spectator at the fence of the airfield Neuburg an der Donau (ETSN) in a photo story.

Auf der westlichen Seite der Landbahn schließt ein kleiner Hügel an, von dem aus man eine freie Sicht auf das ganze Flughafengelände hat. Die 2.5 km Länge erscheinen im Bild stark verkürzt. Ganz am Ende auf der linken Seite befinden sich die 4 Hanger für die QRA. Gerade als ich das Bild gemacht hatte ertönte die Sirene, oder besser gesagt die Hupe, die die Alarmierung einläutet.

There is a small hill on the western side of the runway, from which you have a clear view of the entire airport area. The 2.5 km length appear greatly shortened in the picture. At the very end on the left are the 4 hangers for the QRA. Just when I had taken the picture, the siren, or rather the horn, sounded, which triggered the alarm.

Als ich auf der hinteren Seite angekommen war stand der erste Flieger bereits auf der Startbahn. Von der Hupe bis zum Abheben vergehen gerade einmal 7-10 Minuten, je nach Dringlichkeit.

When I arrived on the back side, the first plane was already on the runway. It takes just 7-10 minutes from the signal horn to take off, depending on the urgency.

Da kommt der zweite auf die Bahn, gut zu sehen das grüne HUD, oder Head-up-Display.

Then the second comes on the way, good to see the green HUD, or head-up display.

Er stellt sich links neben den ersten.

He stands to the left of the first.

Die letzten Startvorbereitungen und Einsatzpläne werden abgesprochen.

The final preparations for the start and operational plans are discussed.

Und dann beginnt der Drachentanz. Start mit Nachbrenner!

And then the dragon dance begins. Start with afterburner!

Eine nicht allzu häufige Variante, da habe ich großes Glück.

Not a very common variant, I'm very lucky.

Sekundenbruchteile vor dem Abheben hat die Maschine bereits so viel Geschwindigkeit dass sie mein Autofocus nicht mehr richtig erwischt und das Bild etwas unscharf wird.

The machine has so much speed in a fraction of a second before it takes off that my autofocus doesn't catch it properly and the image becomes a little blurred.

Dann hebt sie ab und zieht steil nach oben weg.

Then it takes off and pulls away steeply.

An der "last change", dem letzten Prüfpunkt vor der Rollbahn, stehen inzwischen drei weitere Maschinen die die ganze Rollbahn mit einem Schleier aus ihren Triebwerken versehen.

At the "last change", the last test point before the runway, there are now three other machines that cover the entire runway with a veil from their engines.
