There are three kinds of people with whom every worker have to deal. They are the Fits, the Misfits, and the Counterfeits.

The Fits are no problem, they just naturally fit in well and cause us no difficulties. We have no right to brag how well we can get along with these people for they are Grade A to begin with and just naturally fit in with everyone, including us.

The Misfits are more of a problem. Obviously, they aren’t so well suited for their niche in life and this causes friction, some of which rubs off on us. But with a little extra understanding, they will at least improve their lot in life and thereby be less trouble for us.

In every group, we have our share of the Counterfeits, those people who are mentally cut on the bias. Nothing they do is right by our standards, and nothing we do seems to please them. These are the people who present a real challenge to us because they test our talents, patience, and ingenuity as we try to get along with them.

JUDGE NOT, MOLD NOT

The interesting thing is that all these people, like us, are trying to find their place in life. Each one in his own way is trying to establish himself in some useful purpose, although often this is not clear to us. That’s because we are inclined to measure everyone else by our standards, not his.

We run into difficulties when we attempt to make others to fit into our mold. At the same time, we would resent it if they tried to change us. We would be happier in our jobs if we could just learn to accept others as they are. We can do this if we try to understand the other person, not judge him.
Tolerance is an oil that takes friction out of life.
