Changing A Bike Tire

in #life8 years ago

I remember the first time @AustinHopper challenged me to fix a flat tire on our road bike.

"I don't know how! Why don't you just do it?"

I was irritated. Didn't he know I had laundry to do and dinner to worry about? We tend to rely on a pretty stereotypical division of labor. He's good with power tools, I'm good with Windex. So why was he throwing the literal wrench to me?

I gave in and he walked me through how to change the tire. Aaaand I loved it. I loved using my hands to fix something. So this time around when the tire went flat, I knew just what to do.

Have you had a learning experience like this? Do you have people in your life who challenge you to learn new skills?
