Alone in the park

The footsteps seemed to be coming near. She started sweating. She could feel her fear creeping up and her legs about to start running. The sun had set and it was getting dark. The park was nearly empty. She got up from the bench, put back her things in her bag and searched with her eyes, any person who might have remained.

She had lost track of time while reading the book that she did not notice everyone leave. thankfully, the park lights were switched on and she could see clearly. She looked around but could not see anyone. She decided to walk towards the entrance. The gate was only a few meters away. She started to walk towards the gate when she heard the footsteps again. She panicked and started to run. The sound was still too near to be comfortable.

Then she remembered. She swore to herself. Her friend had changed the mobile ringtone and it had sounded like footsteps. She took out her mobile and saw that it was her husband who was trying to reach her. She answered the call and replied that she was on the way. She vowed to chide her friend and walked away, quite calm, now. She did not look back.

The tramp watched her go. He had been puzzled by her fearlessness.
Maybe, she had a gun.
