Shutters of 22 dams opened in Kerala

We got up today hearing the news about dam shutters being opened throughout the state of Kerala. Landslides occurred in many places causing deaths of so many people who were sleeping, during the night.
The power was cut and we had to rely on mobile news to stay updated about the waters being released.
The Idukki dam does not have a shutter and so, the Cheruthoni shutters were opened. Within hours, the paddy fields filled up.
The state has canceled the upcoming snake boat race associated with the festival of Onam which is a major tourist attraction.
As of now, at 9.42 in the night, the water level in Idukki has reached 2400.10 ft

It is being reported that more shutters are going to be opened.
The people, in general, are blaming the electricity board for not opening the shutters before itself. If the shutters had been opened earlier, a lot of water would have been released slowly and the present situation could have been avoided.
I hope to God that floods do not occur.
This situation reiterates the importance of preserving nature and not destroying it by constructing concrete buildings and encroaching on jungles. People have destroyed the nature and invited the wrath. There are lesser trees to hold the waters. Groundwater is becoming scarce because there is no more ground. Instead, there is concrete. If only, people would take heed and stop this looting.
