How Flixxo Plans To Disrupt The Video Industry
The online video industry is ripe for disruption.
The market is monopolised by a few large players like YouTube and Facebook.
Under the current system the majority of video creators struggle to earn a full time living.
Unless you are a big name like Pewdiepie or Michelle Phan you are caught in the trap of having the full time commitment of being a vlogger but without the income to support it.
For users the experience isn’t much better.
They are constantly being exposed to advertising that they don’t want to consume. They aren’t rewarded for the social contribution to those platforms when they help to curate video content through their “likes”
That’s why Flixxo, a new P2P video platform, believes it can offer a better solution for everyone involved.
Flixxo In A Nutshell
Flixxo is a decentralised video platform where users are rewarded for contributing to the community. Users are rewarded in the native Flixx tokens in three different ways:
- For “liking” video content
- For consuming advertising
- For contributing bandwidth and storage
Because users will be supplying the bandwidth and storage - and being rewarded for doing so - the platform can potentially grow rapidly.
Flixxo’s Growth Strategy - Overcoming The “Network Effect”
There is a well recognised phenomena known as the “network effect”.
This states that a network becomes more valuable as it acquires more users.
Facebook is a great example of this. Facebook is more useful if all of your friends and family are on there.
The opposite is also true. If your friends and family aren’t on Facebook then the site doesn’t have much utility.
This is very important when growing a new video platform like Flixxo.
In order to be successful it needs to have both creators and an audience.
If there isn’t good content on Flixxo then people won’t want to use it.
If there isn’t an audience then then video creators won’t contribute to it.
That’s why it’s important that Flixxo has a clear road map to acquire users and creators.
As noted in the introduction there are plenty of mid level Vloggers which have audiences of between 50 - 100K but aren’t making a full time living.
Flixxos plan is to invite 20 of these YouTubers to Flixxo to create original content.
To incentivise them to do so they will be provided with a covering production budgets of between $5 - $20K.
These Vloggers have existing audiences. Audiences that are very likely to move over to the Flixxo platform to consume the creators content, which will only be available there.
Looking Forward
Having a great product which solves a big problem is great and Flixxo certainly ticks that box.
But when creating a new platform it is not enough.
Having a clear road map to attracting creators and an initial audience is essential.
Flixxo have identified a very workable solution to doing precisely that.
