Space launches are a big deal. They always have been. However, the recent advancements made by SpaceX and their frequent launches of cargo to the ISS and satellites into orbit have somewhat decreased the excitement for each launch.

That is going to change, at least for SpaceX's next launch. It's a biggie and a few decades into the future, this event might be heralded as the one that finally made humanity a spacefaring civilisation.

This crucial event is about to take place on May 27. SpaceX will launch its first humans to space ever and America will be sending American astronauts from American soil on an American spacecraft after nearly 9 years. It is finally regaining its status as the leader in space exploration.

Previously, American astronauts used to use NASA's Space Shuttle which was retired in 2011. Since then they have relied on Russia's Soyuz spacecraft for their manned space missions to the ISS. SpaceX's launch could put an end to that.

SpaceX Leading The Way

SpaceX will launch American astronauts Bob Behnken and Dough Hurley aboard the Crew Dragon spacecraft. The rocket that they will be using is the tried and trusted Falcon 9 rocket. The launch is scheduled for May 27 at 8:32 pm UTC.

It will be the first manned mission for SpaceX. Also, the Crew Dragon will finally serve its purpose after being thoroughly tested in the last many years. If everything goes according to the plan, it could become the go-to choice for manned missions for the US.

This could bode well for SpaceX. They will start making some good revenue and their spot as one of the leaders in space will be further cemented. Boeing is the other company that has been developing spacecraft for manned missions. However, they seem to have fallen behind.

There is so much excitement to send astronauts to the ISS from American soil. Imagine what will happen when SpaceX launches its Starship spacecraft for the first time carrying humans to Mars. I for one, just cannot wait.
