If there is one man who is bringing science fiction to reality, it has to be Elon Musk. One of his companies, SpaceX, has especially been doing a remarkable job in recent times.

Not only did the company manage to send US astronauts from the US after nine years, but it is also regularly launching Starlink satellites that will finally make space-based broadband internet viable.

However, that's not all. SpaceX is just getting started and a recent job listing suggests that they are already planning to build spaceports for future Moon and Mars launches. Yep, in the future, people won't only go to "airports", they will also go to "spaceports".

Of course, it will still take some time for humans to be able to go to Mars but the Moon could open up to space tourists sooner than we had expected.

Floating Spaceports

SpaceX has posted a job listing for an "Offshore Operations Engineer" in Brownsville, Texas. The responsibilities for this new job will basically be to lead a team of engineers to design and build a floating spaceport. The port will be an operational offshore rocket launch facility.

Elon Musk took to Twitter to confirm that they are indeed looking to build these ports. In fact, he also indicated that they were a part of a much bigger plan. That's right. The spaceport will not only be used for space launches but also for something really exciting.

It is well known that SpaceX has plans to introduce hypersonic travel around the planet using its fleet of Starship rockets. So, future humans will be able to take a rocket to a faraway city instead of an airplane.

Air travel to distant cities can take about a day but SpaceX's rockets will get you there within half an hour. If this is allowed and if this is adopted by the general public, it will revolutionize how humans travel. Imagine, most cities will be a mere half an hour away from you!
