Aragon‏ @AragonProject
Here's a recap of what went on with Aragon in Q2 2018 in our Transparency Report.
Our spending on salaries, expenses, and sponsoring of #Ethereum events. Nest grants, new and closed governance issues, and the second Aragon team, led by @Givethio.

Other projects should follow @AragonProject example. Excellent transparency

Alex Shelkovnikov‏ @_shelk
A small network with highly engaged users is way better than a large network with weak or zero engagement. Like for traditional tech, this is also applicable for crypto networks.

Almost everyone in crypto claims they are launching a network but in practice there are only a few that are indeed networks and could benefit from true network effects.

Religions and passions always beat indifference. Churches of #Satoshi (and a camp of @SatoshiLite), of @VitalikButerin, of @gavofyork, of @bytemaster7, of @IOHK_Charles , of @justinsuntron, however good or bad, would have higher impact than a blend of ..

Even so, it’s important to understand whether most of the value will stay with the establishment or end up with its followers.

This is where decentralisation and governance comes into play.

Centralised governance (dictatorship) is easier and more effective to execute.

However reasonably effective governance executed on decentralised networks (@AragonProject) will bring more value to a larger number of passionate followers.

Why? Because you can’t fool followers forever (@MessariCrypto). They'll know (quite often from early days) whether value distribution is fair and it’s worth leveraging their social capital to bring personal networks on board..

...and whether (non-monetary or both) benefits of new users joining is higher than the one of older users - that's where you really start network effects play out properly.

So to launch a winning network one needs to design mechanisms of value distribution to be significantly more appealing to a large enough number of participants than that of current incumbents.

Only then it would be possible to overcome switching costs users would bear (assuming product leadership and operational excellence are also a factor) by moving their activity and contribution of value to the other network.

How many of the established and emerging crypto networks have been able to achieve this or are at least trying? Very few. Hence not many of them will stay relevant (valuable) in the long run.

It's going to be exciting to see what many new ones we haven't yet heard about will come up with in the future (e.g. anyone to figure out fair distribution of tokenised happiness /in different shapes/ as the ultimate driver of reward? me)

Bottom line: design fair value distribution and find a good path to executing trustless governance (even if in practice 'trustless' means decentralised and trusted, until the stuff of science fiction books suddenly gets real and we figure out proper on-chain governance)

My God! A #cryptocurency called #Dash digital cash that actually has a working product & has real world use. Shock, horror! What... no ICO? no ETF? Nope! Just a surge in user & merchant adoption. Instant transactions & fees under a penny. Pure madness! @Dashpay rocks!

CryptoKaiser‏ @iz_me_alex
Go #dash if this isn't the most important usecase of crypto for humanity i don't know what is.

Token State (Tokenize the World)‏ @tokenstate
Forking off is not a Governance model. At least Dash has the ability to fire Core team if consensus agreed. Just imagine how far Bitcoin would be if stakeholders had the ability to defund the Core team if they were not happy w/ direction. Looking back it will be crystal clear.

Riccardo Spagni‏@fluffypony
lol Dash's burn rate is so high that it's at jeopardy of not being able to continue if the price drops lower, so now some people want to fire the Dash CEO for mismanagement

... stop putting poo on the doorsteps of other coin camps... f/ ugly :/ ... it is so visible on reddit and finally it is here as well :( ... all we ordinary cryptocats want to see - coins supporting each other ... $DASH is awesome, the same applies to $ZEC, $ETC and many others

      Javier Bastardo‏ @criptobastardo
I just went to a coffee shop near my house a few days ago that 'accepts' $DASH but only in certain conditions: only when the owner is there and only when he really want to. Dash adoption isn't a fact yet and many of the merchants just 'accepts' it. Accept it bro

      Richard Red‏ @RichardRed0x
Dash is hard-wired at the protocol level to have a 100% burn rate, every month the treasury funds are either spent or burned. From the current votes it looks like there aren't many Master Nodes who want to change CEO.

      George Kimionis‏ @kimionis
Last year I had a chat with @RTaylor05 regarding the implementation of @Dashpay's Private Send inside @CoinomiWallet. The deal fell through, however Ryan was very enthusiastic and professional at all times. It's hard to believe that #Dash could have a better CEO. Just my 2 sats.

      Conrad Hayek‏ @HayekConrad
Dash has a self-funding treasury system where the network participants do on-chain voting to hire contractors to do marketing, coding, etc. "Dash Core Group" is just a big team of contractors. It's a pretty fucking awesome virtue loop, as long as it doesn't go cybernet.

Token State (Tokenize the World)‏ @tokenstate
At least Dash has a on-chain Funding & Governance system w/o any forking. @RTaylor05 & the Dash Core team can be fired at anytime by the Dash Master Node DAO voting mechanism. That's why you see this proposal before they is a problem. The community is not in favor of this yet.

Never understood why your platform needs a utility token.
Tokenomics clearly don't work. How do you solve the velocity problem?
Do you think adding a token to the infrastructure creates any friction?

      Sam Stone‏ @stonysam
Look beyond the investment platform and to the Swarm blockchain. SWM token is used for governance (Swarm is a non-profit and SWM token holders vote on foundation level decisions), for gas (which is recycled & pays for investor qualifications) & as reward for 3rd party services.

      chris eberle ‏ @SVginger
Mr King! An honor to be trolled by you, sir. A decentralized, token supported, common infrastructure is the best way to bring security tokens to the world - not just for Swarm. If only tokenomics + shipping real product impacted the crypto markets, eh?(btw ask Pomp for a preview)

Value exchange, sometimes through fees, is necessary for all of the actors using infrastructure to participate & grow. There's friction anytime a payment is made, even if it's automated. But if the value and incentives are there, the token will be used - with healthy velocity

      cryptodiario‏ @cryptodiario
But don't you think you can avoid using a token or assign it just a governance role like $zrx in order to reduce friction? Other kind of incentives may be introduced once the platform grows its user base organically and its security portfolio

It definitely can. That's why projects like @0xProject assign their token a governance role for the moment. Swarm token model can be succesful in the future, but I think short term priority for a security platform must be avoiding friction, growing customer base and issuance

*I meant "that's the reason why projects like @0xProject ONLY assign their tokens a governance role"

Does anyone have insight into why Dash has been faring worse than others in this bear market? I'll admit that I'm confused, to me it seems like a good alt. I know its launch was shady, but I don't think that can account for poor performance lately. I also realize that there are superior projects, but I think that in crypto legacy counts for a lot, at least at this early point in the game.

      Travis Malcolm Rall
I agree Paul it is a bit of a mystery but they haven’t focused heavily on marketing over the crypto winter like they did in more bullish days. That said. They have what seems like a high rate of use in under banked societies so I still think it is a solid alt.

      Sasha Fleyshman
I’ve always been very unimpressed with DASH.
Only thing I like about them is that they picked a cool name...
Every time I meet someone from DASH I just get the sense that there’s nothing behind the scenes....

If they do well, good for them. There’s too many projects for me to second guess my gut feeling on one

      Paul Andrews
It is suspicious that they’ve been taking funds from the DAO and promising Evolution as the next PayPal with little to show…

      Brian Farrell
Read they are running out of funds. Not saying that's true. Saying its what I read.

This is a perfect example of buy the hype, sell the news. If history has taught anything, most of these partnership announcements hype up the price and then when announcement made, it dumps. May not happen all the time, but that's what I'm betting on.

This is not a purchasing guide, this is a simplified perspective on alt coins and ICO’s. Many of you who are new to the space need some very basic knowledge on what to look for when selecting projects to get into.

There are many different areas I will not cover in this post, that does not mean they are not important or that they are not to be taken just as seriously. For example, Ash Roulston will prob torch me for not mentioning the tech. I recognize the majority of crypto people are new to the space and for that very reason, they lack experience and knowledge in the industry.

Remember you don’t have to start with a lot of money to be successful in crypto and crypto trading. A lot of the OG’s started with very little and I’ve been witness to many people from last year turn a few hundred dollars into 5 figures. This is factual, don’t let others deter you by their own success or their own bankroll. Invest your money responsibly, never put yourself in a position that would hurt you or your family.

Please understand this is my personal perspective that has helped make me successful in crypto. There are hundreds of areas you should work to be proficient in understanding. This is just a start for some of you.

There are several projects out there that I’m currently holding and accumulating on. No, I’m not going to say their names, but I want to encourage those that look for these long term holds to go and find these gems. Some are popular, some are unknown. Some are speculative in nature others are, in my mind, can’t miss projects.

How I determine which coins I hold, ultimately comes down to 5 things.

1.) Team
Having a team that I’m familiar with, that has produced in other areas in both blockchain and in the “real world” alleviates a lot of my stresses and allows me to quickly sift through many of the projects that ultimately are too risky. Sure I’ve gone out on a limb and been successful not following this rule, (albeit in 2017 mainly,) but the market and the sentiment of the market is different. The expectations are different now as well. Will a team produce? Reputation, credibility, responsiveness and transparency. Key factors in determining the team’s value and character.

2.) Use Cases
Gone will be the days of vaporware projects. Vaporware projects are not all bad. Startups have to start up somewhere, great ideas do not always have the capital to make these ideas reality. However, as we move into mass adoption of the blockchain, expectations will become more tangible and will have shorter leashes. I know I’ve made my mistakes on projects as investment purposes go, but we as a community should hold projects accountable to usefulness. Do these projects have real world application? Do these projects have a future application?

3.) Wheel Test
Is a project attempting to reinvent the wheel? This is self explanatory. The wheel is a real world tool that has been used for hundreds of generations. Yes it’s been modified and improved, but the basic principle of a circular object has not. The wheel doesn’t need to be reinvented, it just continues to be modified to improve performance. Does a blockchain project look to reinvent something that doesn’t need to be reinvented? If so, it’s high risk. That doesn’t mean it’s not the next break through tech, but it’s something to be weary of.

4.) Execution
Can this company execute the promises they have made? Often times the ideas presented are sincere and honest, however start up companies often lack the business model and the economic principles required to be successful early on. Many companies die off simply due to lack of experience in the senior level management areas. This correlates with the aforementioned #1, (above,) but it does deserve its own mention.

5.) Post ICO momentum and Free tokens
This one is simply a monetary issue. If you believe in a project and don’t mind a post ico dump off because you’re in it long term, this matters very little to you. However, as of late, ICO’s have famously been dumped upon release to exchanges. This has been an unfortunate result of a bearish market and the absurd amount of bounties and bonus tokens allotted to raise money in presale. Will a company have enough momentum and interest, post ICO to sustain the bounty hunters and the short term traders who take huge losses on release? This does matter to most people. Although for the longs, this isn’t a huge issue and many people buy at the ICO then shut their computer for 6-12 months until they are ready to check it. This is also number 5 for a reason. I don’t put BTC or ETH into a project to dump it, therefore I take my chances based on a long term perspective, but I would be foolish not to include it.

For those of you who have additional ideas that could or should be included, please add them in the comments. Simplify your reasoning so that the new member can understand and comprehend. I remember how big and how overwhelming crypto was in the beginning.
An educated market is a healthy market. Time to clean this mess up!

      Randy Hilarski
Team and use case are my biggest focus. If I don't personally know the team I will buy post ICO if it looks appealing.

      Mohammad Hussain
Although you have a slimmer chance I actually like ICOs who do lotteries to determine who can participate and have an individual hardcap.

The upcoming NEX ICO will, in my opinion, be the best ico of 2018. The team are made up of those who created the Neon Wallet CoZ are absolute giants within the crypto space.

Their vision is long term and they are going through approval to be registered as a security ensuring they are future proof.

The list goes on but if you are in it for the long term grabbing this coin at under $10 and you have yourself a bargain.

They have ambitious plans with a proven team. Speaking at the European houses of parliament in itself speaks volumes let alone the rest of what they've achieved.

      Ahmad Omar Siddiqi
Love the suggestion. Along with real world use cases another more tangible metric should be how does the project intend to generate token holder value (THV). Examples of tangible value is either through token buyback (ICN, BNB) or through masternode income like PivX.

For all the Canadians in the group - CoinSmart.com

Hey Fellow Watchers - back in the Spring during the SD event, we announced the launch of a new crypto exchange we were launching in Canada. We have now been live for a few months and growing insanely fast. We have the widest offering of coins in Canada as well as the best user experience and customer service.

We are the only multi banked exchange on the marketplace and we are adding an additional 8 coins over the next 45 days or so. So that means you can buy/sell and trade more than you have ever been able to at a fully Canadian exchange where you can onramp and offramp your FIAT with Canadian banks.

We also allow trading without having to pair. You can go from Fiat or Coin to any other coin we offer. We take care of it all for you.

I want to offer EVERYONE who is eligible to join the exchange $25 in free crypto. Just use the coupon: THEWATCHERS

www.coinsmart.com

I would also love any feedback possible on the branding, the UX, and the service. Please share. It is the only way we make it better for all of YOU.

I’ve always maintained they Ripple’s XRP token is useless. I’ve also been of the strong opinion that the technology that Ripple are introducing will soon be done by the banks themselves and Ripple will disappear.

Now a detailed university study has confirmed that the XRP token has no use.
But wait..... there’s more.

Today I downloaded an app called BEEMIT.

I was able to transfer money from my bank account to my sons bank account INSTANTLY. With no fees.

BEEMIT is a joint initiative between CBA, Westpac and NAB.

It works with with any bank to any bank, as long as you have a visa or MasterCard debit card.

And it’s instant.

Easy, GUI way of transferring DAI to Ledger?
by mashina55

I did some research on the topic but only found complex (compared to my skill) solutions of doing this.Is there no other way of doing this other than going with parity or geth? As a regular speculator/user, I have no need of setting up the whole environment just to do a few transfers. It would be super nice if there was a way to do interactions similar to MEW to Ledger transfers…

Edit: Hypothetically - could I use one of the exchanges that offer buying DAI directly and then withdraw to Ledger through the exchange interface? It is a bit of a workaround, but it seems doable?

Edit2: After a bit more digging - How about Radar Relay? It seems to support direct hardware wallet ETH wrapping with, I guess, easy to understand experience. I'll try it out today, that would be my first time "wrapping ETH". A concept that is a still a bit abstract to be honest

All EOS Token owners, vote this Worker Proposal Funds completely out
by tezonian

Very ill conceived idea that was to provide a WPS to start with. Now that Dan wants to get rid of it all the vested interests who had to gain from it are coming full force to criticize Dan and fighting hard to get their share.

As a eos token holder I totally feel cheated out of this system by dilution and inflation and the oligarchy of a few 21 block producers supported by their whale token holders.

If this WPS were to go through guess what happens.. the same whales supporting the top BPs and the new class of emerging proxies who control your voting rights will completely take over those funds and use them to their own advantage.

Dear token holders, please do not promote such cartels and support these whales and BPs and Proxies to dominate and take over the system and dilute the value of your tokens.

DASH v.s. NANO...
by mlgoody
I'm a strong believer in NANO's potential as a global currency, and I don't know all that much about DASH.

I was wondering what reasons you'd have for continuing to support DASH instead of switching to NANO, given concerns about the long-term viability of DASH's core dev fund: https://www.dashcentral.org/p/demote-ryan-taylor-to-an-advisory-role.

It seems to me that DASH may continue to decline in value as concerns like these are shared, and NANO's value may well increase. It seems like the reasonable investment approach, so I'm curious why DASH still has your vote of confidence over NANO?

Please know I'm not trying to shill, only understand the logic. I respect the work DASH has done in Venezuela to educate folks about how to make good use of DASH's currency.

Friendly reminder, new proposals to the Dash Treasury are unlikely to be funded due to the ginormous correction.
by solarguy2003

While it pains me to say this, it would be unwise to submit new proposals to the Dash Treasury at the moment, and in the near future. The entire crypto market has experienced an almost 90% correction in price/value, including Dash.

To speak plainly, we can pay our developers, and possible maybe a couple of other essential projects, IF they all tighten the belt and do serious cost control.

This doesn't mean you can't submit new proposals. You are still free to do so. That's one of the many great things about Dash. There is no gatekeeper. But, I would hate to see you burn 5 Dash, only to see your proposal go unfunded. Even some of our very popular proposals have gained enough YES votes in the Treasury proposal to (technically) pass, but the money ran out, which prevented them from actually being funded.

Update on Availability of Multi-Collateral Dai
MakerDAO

On September 17 we will deploy the smart contract system to the Kovan Testnet, open source the code, release accompanying documentation, and make available the results from the formal verification of the Multi-Collateral Dai smart contracts. We invite the community to review and provide feedback on this critical step toward bringing Multi-Collateral Dai to market.

To provide the highest confidence that the contracts behave as expected, we are working with Runtime Verification to provide us with a formal and mathematically provable audit of the Multi-Collateral smart contracts. We believe MakerDAO will be the first production smart contract system that is formally verified in this manner.

Maker has always prioritized a “quality first” approach to determine when a product is ready to be launched. As we believe the Dai ecosystem has the potential to be the foundation of an entirely new crypto economy we recognize the enormous responsibility we have to our stakeholders, and the ecosystem in general, to get the details right.

Dash Reportedly Surging in Venezuela in Wake of Hyper-Inflation, Petro Confusion
BitratesNews

Dash, a Bitcoin-based altcoin launched in 2014 by Evan Duffield, has recently been in the spotlight thanks to reports that its use is on the rise in Venezuela, but its reach may not be as great as reported by some news outlets.

Venezuela is a pioneer state when it comes to cryptocurrencies, for better or for worse. It is the first country in the world to emit its own resource backed-cryptocurrency, and is also the first country to peg the value of its official fiat currency to a crypto asset. These decisions have been taken by the Maduro administration as high tech, and last resource alternative to the ubiquitous cash shortages and ATM/POS network collapses that further complicate life and trade for millions of consumers in a country stricken by six-figure inflation rates.

In the midst of this dread situation, several news outlets seemed to have overstated the importance of Dash in Venezuela by echoing recent declarations by the CEO of the Dash Core Group Ryan Tailor, who said that the country became their #2 market earlier this year “even ahead of China and Russia”, adding,

We’ve seen 94 new Venezuelan merchants added to DiscoverDash.com since last week, which is about double the normal rate of about 50 merchants per week [over] the last couple of months.

Alchemy Coin Lands JP Morgan Alum to Spearhead Risk
Alchemy Coin

Alchemy Coin sent a positive message to the blockchain community by adding yet another former Wall St. banker to its staff. Aidan Stevens will assume the title of Director of Risk Management, and Mr. Stevens will report directly to Alchemy Coin Chief Risk Officer Chris Lowe.

“I’m delighted to announce the hire of Aidan Stevens to the Alchemy Coin team,” said Mr. Jung in a written statement. “In Jim Collins management classic ‘Good to Great’ he talks endlessly about getting the right people “on the bus” and the wrong people “off the bus”. We’re sure glad to have Aidan riding alongside us on this journey as we get ready for takeoff.”

“I spent more than a decade at JP Morgan and not a day went by when I didn’t look at global risks — geopolitical, credit, emerging markets, regulation, you name it. Risk is what I am trained to do. And Risk is my portfolio now at Alchemy Coin. I cannot wait to get started. This is a dream come true,” said Mr. Stevens.

EOS Decentralization
Attic Lab

Attic Lab will explain you in short form the basics of EOS blockchain decentralization. We will go through the basics of EOS.IO, DPoS consensus algorithm, block producers, benefits for developers and sum up EOS blockchain successes after two months of operation.

Introduction

EOS.IO is a blockchain platform oriented on the development of decentralized applications (dapps). To make the development process easier, EOS provided an operating-system-like set of services and functions that developers can use.

Overall, the main idea of EOS lies around bringing the best promises and features of the different smart contract technologies. Moreover, EOS blockchain has a massively scalable dapp platform that allows users to interact with it on a daily basis.
