Link between poor sleep and Alzheimer's

in #sleep7 years ago

The fragmented sleep, interrupted by frequent awakenings during the night, leading to the need to nap during the day can be an early symptom of Alzheimer's disease, says a new study. It was recently published in the prestigious scientific journal JAMA Neurology and found that in elderly people with normal memories but have disrupted circadian rhythms (also known as cycles of sleep), there is an accumulation of protein substances called amyloid plaque, which can serve as an early sign of Alzheimer's disease.

The damage it causes memory loss caused by Alzheimer's disease may begin as 15 to 20 years before symptoms of the disease become apparent. Previous studies have shown a link between poor sleep and dementia in the elderly. The discovery raises the hypothesis that if you treat carotid interference immediately after its establishment, it can help to protect the health of the brain in the future, but so much more is needed research. For purposes of this scientists have tracked carotid cognitive cycles of 189 healthy adults of average age of 66 years. They are also analyzed their brains to look for traces of proteins associated with the development of Alzheimer's plaques postponed.
