PS Tennis or Photoshop Battles are an amazing exercise for the creatively inclined, & a pretty awesome spectator sport!

Many MANY years ago, I was a new designer. I got into it all because graphics are pretty and art is awesome of course! With my passion I found books, and communities that had something called PS TENNIS or Photoshop Battles, which allowed the creative to really flex their creative muscles and make some great stuff on the fly, within constraints, and really force them to BE creative.

How it works

Essentially the way it works is that an individual, or community, or team, etc. designs 1 image and posts/sends it to another individual, community, or team.

The other individual, community, or team then takes that image and based on the rules, pre-set before the 'match', creates a 2nd image based on the original.

This does not mean that it must look the same, or even have the same theme, only that it must be built based on the previous image, or using elements from the previous image, again, depending on the rules.

An Example of some types of rules

• Platform: Photoshop/Illustrator
• Size: Can not be altered
• Rotation: Yes
• Number of Vollies: 10
• Participants: 2

Here are a few examples of a few past PS Tennis Matches / Photoshop Battles I was in over a decade ago, because pictures speak over 1000 words!

Shade Vs Xeor

For this match, the only rules were that the image could not be resized, and there were only 2 participants.

For this match, the rules were that the image must be a particular size (the resolution was EXTREMELY large) and there were only 2 participants.

For this match, the rule was that the art-work could take no longer than 15 minutes from start to finish. This was an attempt to push both speed with creativity and see what could happen within a limited time.
