Eat Mor Chikin, at home - Chick Fil A Chicken [Copy Cat]

in #copycat7 years ago (edited)

Living away from my country of origin has left me with 1 major disappointment. FOOD! Local food here is great sure, and there are plenty of foreign restaurants that are delicious, but some of my favorite guilty pleasures haven't made it here, and likely never will. One such favorite is CHICK FIL A.

Yummy Chicken.jpg

I used to eat Chick Fil A on a regular basis, and for some reason I ALWAYS craved it on Sunday (the one day of the week it is closed for those not familiar). From the nuggets dipped in their unique style buffalo sauce, to a standard chicken sandwich, even their breakfast chicken burritos! If you have never had Chick Fil A, you are missing out HARD.

Have no fear though, if you don't have a Chick Fil A close to you like is the case for me, now you can make it at home by following my chick fil a copy cat recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 2 Chicken breast filets.
  • Dill Pickle Juice (enough to cover the chicken in a marinade)
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 Cup Flour
  • 1 Tablespoon Sugar
  • 2 Teaspoons Salt
  • 2 Teaspoons Spanish Paprika
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Ground Oregano
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 pinch Powdered Cayenne
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Ground Basil
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1/4th Teaspoon White Pepper
  • Cooking Oil (Peanut Oil is best but if you can't get any, Canola or Vegetable will be ok, it'll still be absolutely delicious).

Preparation & Cooking

Start by taking your chicken breasts and beating them till they are 1/2 to 1/3 inch thick, or to your desire. The thinner the better, without making them chicken bacon, more surface area for the breading. If you want nuggets rather than a single filet per sandwich, cut them into 1" pieces.

Put the chicken into a Tupperware container (a sealable plastic container) and pour the pickle juice over the chicken, massage the chicken a bit and stab a few pieces with a fork to help the pickle juice really seep in. There is no such thing as too much pickle juice here!

Place the chicken in the refrigerator and marinate for a minimum of 4 hours. I like to marinate mine for 12-24 hours if possible, but refuse to cook it if the chicken has marinated for less than 4.

Once your chicken has marinated for your desired length of time, break the eggs into a bowl and whisk them lightly, blending the yolks without causing the egg-whites to firm up too much.

Put all the other ingredients into another container or zip lock bag and shake it up to get them all mixed together.

Using your left hand, take the chicken out of the pickle juice and place it in the egg wash one at a time.

Using your left hand again take the chicken out of the egg wash one at a time and place it into the flour mixture.

Shake and smother the chicken in the flour mixture until completely covered.

Using your right hand, take the chicken out of the flour mixture and place into pre-heated oil in your frying pan. If you have a deep-fryer you're fancier than I am.

Fry the chicken until golden brown, turning ONLY ONCE if you can resist playing with it while it cooks.

Eating

If you're eating a chicken sandwich, garnish with 2-4 dill pickle chips and a splash of Louisiana style hot-sauce over a toasted bun.

If you're eating chicken nuggets, i highly recommend a Louisiana hot-sauce style dip if you like it spicy, or a nice honey mustard if you prefer the sweeter side of life.

ENJOY!!
