Cephalonia Fiskardo - TRAVEL

Fiskardo in Cephalonia is currently so popular that it looks a bit like a mini Mykonos. Despite this, it is still a favorite place for day trips - by bus or boat. Fiskardo has visitors at all times, especially in July and August.

Fiskardo is located in the far north of Cephalonia, about 50km from Argostoli and is the largest village in the Asos Peninsula. Ferries from the neighboring islands of Lefkada and Ithaca land here, as well as a plethora of luxury yachts and groups of sailboats, though the latter usually head for the much cheaper moorings in Agia Efimia in the south.

Most of Fiskard is intended exclusively for pedestrians, and a large parking lot is located near the port, however, finding a vacancy can be a big problem. The area around the port is usually crowded with visitors and at times of ferry arrivals and departures incredibly congested, due to disembarking buses and cars. Parking and exiting a parking lot can be extremely difficult due to heavy shipping.

Fiskardo Cephalonia is little more than a group of renovated houses, taverns and apartments, with wooded hills in the background that cover the coast. Fiskardo in Cephalonia is a popular place for day trips and one of the main stops on a round trip tour of the island by bus.

Few, except the affluent, are able to afford a summer holiday in Fiskard because prices have become extremely high. The place is notoriously expensive, even for the standards that Kefalonia has.

Numerous buildings here survived the 1953 earthquake, so Fiskardo profited from the Venetian architectural heritage. Much of Fiskard nowadays seems more strange than it is historically, as houses have been repainted, plastered with new mortar and scooped up like perfect candy. As with a movie star on set with an overly taut face, it's hard to tell how old it really is.

The Fiskardo Museum has interesting settings for the history of nature, and there are Roman graves along the coast, although they are poorly maintained and collect garbage and seagrass.

This area is great for walking and has numerous trails that are open and marked, thanks to environmental groups.

There are numerous footpaths along the coast, including one that leads to two lighthouses - one Venetian and one British. The 16th-century Venetian lighthouse is a significant landmark. It has been out of use since 1892, when a Victorian lighthouse was built in its vicinity.

Fiskardo has a sheltered beach with pebbles and flat rocks, shallow water and views that reach Ithaca, located near Emblisy. The beach is small and can be crowded during the peak season. Just behind Emblisy, about a 15-minute walk through the woods, in a small, quiet bay, there is another small beach, called Kimilia.
