We're Pregnant!
So, let me tell you about one of the best days of our lives – the day we found out we were pregnant!
From being on the ‘Contraceptive Implant’ for almost eight years, we decided it was time to remove the damn thing and start trying for our little family. On 14 April 2016 I had the implant removed and I won’t explain what had to happen next ;-). I read a few forums (as you do) and many of them were saying about the high rates of miscarriage once the implant had been removed; this obviously worried us slightly, but we just decided to go with it and stop reading the forums!
For a few weeks, I used an app on my phone called ‘Ovia Fertility’ where you can track your ovulation days and note down your moods, diet and cycles – very very handy! We weren’t strict with anything, however some weeks later, Leon went to Leeds for a lads night out. On the Friday night, something came over me and told me to take a pregnancy test. I asked Leon what I should do and he replied “Please wait until I’m back on Sunday”… that was a damn long weekend!
It was the last Sunday in May 2016 and at 9pm we decided to do the test!! (You must always read the instructions as I did the first one incorrectly, so had to wait another hour for the next wee!)
- OH WOW!! We were pregnant! – We couldn’t believe it, is it really that easy? How far are we? What do we do next? -
As it was, I had bought a ClearBlue Digital pregnancy test too, which stated I was 3+ weeks pregnant. So surely this means we fell pregnant straight away right? CORRECT! I remember Leon’s first words: “But it’s not June yet”, as we ‘planned’ to start actively trying in June (Whoops!)
We both had work the next morning, but how on earth could we sleep with this amazing news? We were both over the moon and oh so excited for our near future.
I understand it is not just that easy for all couples to fall pregnant and times must become extremely hard, but luckily for us, it was obviously just meant to be and I cannot put my finger on how the hell it happened so quickly!
But for sure, it made us the happiest couple alive that evening :)

Oh wow, that's amazing news! I am so happy for you. This will be the most exciting time of your life. You'll be amazed at how fast November will come around now! Will you be finding out the gender?
yes at 20 weeks we will find out, although we both feel like it's a boy already :)
Is it your first baby? What makes you feel like it's a boy? I had this feeling - but didn't want to tell too many people. We didn't find out on our 20 week scan, we kept it a surprise, but guess what? I was right and we had a boy! Woohoo!! They're so cuddly and loving :)
yes this is the first. At the first scan I had an overwhelming instinct that it is a boy , my partner is reading a lot about the pregnancy and says that if you are more hairy (which she is) it's likely to be a boy. Let's see, but really I don't mind either way, I just want a healthy happy baby :)
That's lovely for you; it's all so exciting to go through all the 'firsts'; the flutters, the kicks, the punches, the hiccups, the heartburn :)
It's funny you say that, as I was carrying a boy, but was a lot less hairier!
I was exactly the same, either way, a healthy, happy baby is all we wish for deep down
Exciting, life changing news that is! Congratulations @sarahstarkey. I had the opposite problem... every woman I looked at fell pregnant {smile} ... but I received the news last week that I am about to be a Granddad in November this year.... my, how time flies!!
