What is your writing specialism?

in #writing9 years ago (edited)

It is funny isn't it, to not acknowledge you are a writer when you clearly are one, or that you have a specialism? For me, It took me to publish a book to acknowledge the fact that I am a writer.

In truth, I have been doing it for almost 15 years.

Creative writing can be developed in different ways. Here is my writing 'biography' listed chronologially.

2001 Funding bids- I used to help groups to write funding bids to large charitable organisations. To do this, you have to be innovative enough in your writing to be successful

2010 As an enterprise developer and grants manager- I would develop business plans, proposals and reports to trustees of large charitable organisations. To do this I needed to have to create pieces of work that sold my work in a presentable manner.

2015 I started my first blog on word press as 'bloggingitlikeagoddess'- Still didn't think I was a writer

2016 I wrote my first script for my own theatre group, an adult comedy in the theme of Greek Mythology- Still never realised fully

2017 I published one novel and four short stories- This set the belief.

Next year, I am writing my first children's book...a novel

I no longer see myself as having a specialism, as I find happiness in where my writing takes me. I even enjoy writing poetry, which at one point I found annoyingly boring.

My advice is to go with the flow and enjoy writing. If you write for somebody else, or for fun, you are a writer.
