Colour Therapy - Why the fascination?

in #colour3 years ago

If I told you that colour could change your world, you probably would think I have been in isolation too long.

Well, maybe you are right ... well lockdown anyway. But the truth is I am a believer in the benefits of chromotherapy, a method of light/colour therapy.

I have been obsessed with colour since being a child. Yes, I understand children are drawn to bright colours ( I will discuss that later) but my obsession was slightly different.

I remember my mum and newly acquired stepdad taking me to my new home. I can't remember the journey, nor can I remember the events leading to it. In fact, I cannot remember hardly anything in those first five years life - But I remember that day.

FLASHBACK TO 1981

I cant see my parents in the memory, just me stood by myself in a big, strange house. My memory doesn't show me walking around and exploring, just as I stand in front of a huge bay window. I am too small to see anything over the hedge that surrounds the front garden, so I look up to the sky. The memory I have depicts a sky filled with a heavy midnight blue, velvet in texture but ripped apart by the forces of pink and silver. A thunderstorm that paraded in front of my bewildered five-year-old self.

Beside me is a wooden table, so well polished that it shimmers in the moonlight. Placed neatly on top are a set of coloured plastic bowls. I was never shy at asking for permission to touch things, and if the truth be known, I never normally asked, so its no surprise that I start to ungroup and regroup the bowls over and over again.

I am not sure how long I stood there all alone, what the bowls were doing there or even if this was an actual memory and not just an isolated dream of sorts. There are a lot of questions as to why this thought sticks in my head, but regardless of why and how this may be the reason why I am fascinated with colour.

THE BENEFITS OF COLOUR

I become drawn to different colours when my emotions change. For example, for years I was very much a 'red' person. I was always quite ambitious, emotionally charged, defensive, passionate, entrepreneurial ... hot-headed. I was quite averse to colours such as blues and purples and even greens. Always seeking drama and excitement. It is only since I started to study chromotherapy, that I started to understand my personality a lot more and how I could become more balanced.

HOW TO USE COLOUR THERAPY

Well, there are a number of ways. See below:

IMMERSION THERAPY is a popular way. This is where you can directly absorb the colour. Placing coloured lights on your body, wearing particular colours, or bathing in coloured bath salts are some examples.

INTENTION THERAPY- This is almost like willing a person, or situation, positive change using the imagery of colour. Whether it be a crystal, a vision board, painting or candle. This would send the 'intention' of colour healing to the recipient.

PHYSICAL COLOUR THERAPY - A good example of this is reiki. This is where you can physically align your natural energy flow with colour to heal

WHAT DOES EACH COLOUR REPRESENT?

I have created a chart below as a basic understanding.

I hope this has been useful and I hope you enjoy the rest of your day !
