Steem bots and their usefulnesssteemCreated with Sketch.

I have been experimenting with a few bots last few days. still early days but it does not look like they are very profitable at the moment. maybe for some users they are but if you are only relying on the bots upvotes then you wont be having any monetary profits in short term however in the long run there are certain advantages. i will try to put a few points for discussion.

if you invest 2 SBD for a vote that gives you back 4 SBD that looks really good buy and most people will go for it without a second thought. lets break it down and see how that looks.

25% of Author rewards goto curators which is 1 SBD, you are left with 3 SBD now.
if you selected the default option you'd get 50% SBD and 50% SP and you'd expect 1.5 SBD and 1.5 SBD converted to SP. as per block trades you should have 1.87 SP but instead you get around 0.2 SP which is not 50%

Conclusion : you invested 2 SBD and you got 1.5 SBD + 0.2 SP which is not profitable. so unless you are getting 6 SBD for your 2 SBD it is not worth it in my very few experiments.

Why are others doing it, what do they get out of it.

  1. You get highlighted and maybe get into the trending page which gets you more upvotes and comments.

  2. Your SP keeps increasing over time and your own upvote value increases.
