Meatball (Bakso)
Meatballs or bakso is the most common type of meat balls in Indonesian cuisine. Meatballs are generally made from a mixture of ground beef and tapioca flour, but there is also a bakso/meatball made of chicken, fish, or shrimp. In general, meatballs served hot-hot with gravy broth, along with noodles, vermicelli, sprouts and other then sprinkled with fried onions and celery leaves.
Bakso/Meatballs are very popular and can be found throughout Indonesia from bargain carts to large restaurants. various types of meatballs are now widely offered in the form of frozen food sold in supermarkets and malls. Slices of meatballs can also be used as a complement to other types of food such as fried noodles, fried rice, or cai cap.
meatballs have a culinary that is adapted from Indonesian Chinese food. it is known from the term Bakso is the origin of the word from Bak-So, in Chinese that literally means 'pork milled'. because most Indonesians are muslims, meatballs are more commonly made from halal meat such as beef, fish, or chicken.
As time progressed, the term meatball became better known as 'milled meat' only. Now, most sellers of meatballs are Javanese from Wonogiri and Malang. The famous place as the center of Meatballs is Solo and Malang called Bakso Malang.
