Moments, A love story

She was wearing her favorite sweater that day. It was a special day. She pulled the long sleeve of her sweater to cover her fist. She wiped it against the window. The fog on the glass was removed by a swift motion of her hand. She made a clearance on the window, just enough to take a look outside. Visibility was at its verge.
She moved her sleepy eyes close to the window to peek outside.
She forced herself to believe that he was not in her life any more. But some part inside still thought, or maybe hoped, he would come. And that part was right.
Her heart beat, grew exponentially. A wave of warmth swept through her body at that freezing temperature.
A man, covered from top to bottom was standing outside. He was wearing a black blazer with a maroon scarf. She saw him, in the backdrop of sheets if white snow. Pure, intense and depressing white. It was going to be a special day.
He was there, as always, on her birthday. For the last six years he would come to her door to pick her up and take her out to celebrate. But this time it was different. In all these years she was pursuing her degree in a city way down from where they were. Earlier, they both had gone to the same college and met daily. For six years it was all fine.
But when they relieved their degrees in their hands, they realized the time to face reality had come. She had to go back. He had to stay. Families were more important. They both decided, their families’ love meant more.
But there he was, standing in the same way he had stood last year, waiting for her to see him through her window.

Both of them looked into each other’s eyes. A sense of realization dawned on the two.

When they worked really hard to make the future secure, they never really lived in the moment at hand.
