Tech Blog #98 | Nothing Phone (2) - not Much of an Update...
The phone will have a glass front and back protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus and an aluminum frame, suggesting a premium build quality. It is also mentioned to have multiple LED strips on the back for notifications and a blinking red light as a video recording indicator, just as the predecessor. And it was said to have more LED light sections and more functionality for LEDs. I saw Swedish House Mafia has collaborated with Nothing for making Ringtones. The device is said to be IP53 splash, water, and dust resistant, offering a certain level of protection.
The smartphone is rumored to come with a 6.7-inch Flexible OLED display offering vibrant colors and deep blacks. Flexible OLED eases limiting the notches around the display. With a resolution of 1080P, and a 120Hz refresh rate, it is expected to deliver smooth visuals and an enhanced viewing experience. The display has HDR10+ support for improved contrast and dynamic range. The device will feature an under-display optical fingerprint sensor for secure and convenient biometric authentication.
The Nothing Phone (2) will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, which features an octa-core CPU and the Adreno 730 GPU for handling graphics-intensive tasks and providing a smooth gaming experience. It uses UFS 4.0 storage technology and LPDDR5X RAM technology, which is the most advanced and the best. There will be RAM capacities up to 12GB and storage options up to 512GB.
The Nothing Phone (2) is to feature a dual-camera setup on the back, just like the last year. It is expected to include a 50 MP primary camera with PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus) and OIS (Optical Image Stabilization). Additionally, there is a 50 MP ultrawide camera with a 114˚ field of view for capturing wide-angle shots. The device is also said to support video recording up to 4K@30fps. On the front, it is rumored to have a 16 MP selfie camera which has limited video recording capability, just up to 1080P@30fps.
The Nothing Phone (2) will have a non-removable 4700mAh Li-Ion battery. It is rumored to support 33W wired charging with PD3.0 and QC4 technologies, allowing for faster charging times. Additionally, the phone may support 15W wireless charging and 5W reverse wireless charging for added convenience. 33W wired charging is kinda slow for these days, but it can be identified as the lower limit of acceptable charging speeds. I think Nothing wants the battery to last longer.
The pricing information for the Nothing Phone (2) is not provided. I think its base model will be priced at 399$. Pricing may vary depending on the storage configuration and regional factors. Surely this will be priced lower in India. As a whole, Nothing Phone (2) is a well-rounded package for the price. Let's wait and see what Nothing more like to offer.
