Entertainment Blog #152 | Paradise [2023] - A Time-Monetized Future..

Time is priceless.. for now. There are a few movies that brought the idea of monetizing Time. "In Time", the 2011 movie is one of my all-time favorite movies. And you know, Netflix loves to take concepts of good creations and alter them a bit and create a new thing. That's kinda what happened in here.

"Paradise" is a 2023 German Sci-fi movie, which twists and twirls around Max and Elena, who gets into the trouble of a lifetime. Kostja Ullmann and Corinna Kirchhoff play the main roles here and the movie is set in a Dystopian Setup.

Talking about the story, max and Elena has been married and being planning to have a baby. Max works for Aeon, a flagship tech company as a Time Donation Manager. What kinda job is that?? Let me explain.

Aeon, founded by Sophie Theisson has built a mechanism to transfer the aging factor from one to another. For Example, there are two people. One is 20 and the other one is 60. If they are going to exchange 30 years, after exchanging, first one is 50 and the other one is 30. Just like that. The appearance and all age just within a few days after transfer. But for transferring, there should be a DNA match.

Back to the story, Max and Elena have bought a beautiful apartment. Max was doing well at work. He became the employee of the month. One day, when they reached home after visiting their parents, their apartment was on fire. All of their resources went to ashes in minutes. And yet, they had to pay an insurance debt of 12$ million which is money they didn't have.

So, the only payment method left was their time. Since there was no DNA match for Max to donate time, Elena had to do it and grow 40 years older within a few hours. Max knew for a fact that Elena was a DNA match with Sophie Theisson, the founder of Aeon who is an older woman.

Max sensed like this was a planned agenda of Sophie Theisson for her to be young. So Max decided to execute a plan to make her wife as she was before? Who will succeed? It's up to you to find out.

The critical response to the movie Paradise has been mixed, with some praising its visual effects and action sequences, while others criticize its convoluted plot and lack of character development. Since I've watched the movie, I think the movie is slow-paced, which is OK for me. And the creators have kept some of the story for another installation I guess. It was kinda clear at the end.

I think "Paradise" does worth your time. There's a genuine Sci-fi background for the movie. If you are a fan of the time monetization concept, you"ll definitely enjoy this..
