7-fers Wins the Matches | WI vs AUS 2nd Test - Miracle at Gabba...

in Steem Sri Lanka9 months ago

Not like Sri Lanka, when other countries play on their home soil, they tend to win matches. It's like... it's a big thing to defeat them on their home soil. We have beaten England and South Africa in test cricket in the recent past. Other than that, India and Australia are like fortresses for them. They rarely lose test matches at home. But both change on the same day. What a coincidence...

These days, England is touring India for a 5-test match series. And Windies is touring Australia for a full series, including a 2-test match series. The Windies lost their first match, but their inexperienced squad filled with debutants performed well in the first match. Before even starting the series, there was some heat between India and England about the visa rejection of Shoaib Basir, who is a Pakistan-born English cricketer.

First, let's talk about the WI vs AUS match. In the second test match between the Windies and Australia, the Windies batted first. Even though they were unable to get a good start, middle-order and tail enders batted well including fifties from Josua Da Silva, Kewam Hodge, and Kevin Sinclair. With their support, the Windies were able to post 311 on the board for the first inning.

In reply, Australia followed the same as the Windies, failing top order, but Usman Khawaja hanged there for a long time. Once they were 54/4, then came Alex Carey and played a T20 inning, and at the back end, Captain Pat stood up and delivered a handsome fifty to bring them an inch closer to the Windies total, ending the first inning score at 289.

Having a lead of 22 runs, the Windies came to bat in positive mind, thinking to post a decent target for Australians. But they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. A few middle-order batters stood up but were unable to convert them into big innings. The inning ended on 191 as Shamar Joseph was hurting his toes with a Yorker.

Having lost their best bowler, the Windies came to bowl but they managed to scalp 2 wickets before the third day of play was over. On the fourth day, Smith and Green were batting well with a 50+ partnership. And out of the blue, Shamar Joseph came to bowl. He went for a few runs in his first two overs, but oh boy, he delivered on his third over. He sent Cameron Green and Travis Head to the pavilion in consecutive deliveries, giving hope for the Windies.

Shamar Joseph didn't stop there. He kept taking wickets—not just 2, he took six crucial wickets to make Australia on their knees at 175/8. The Australians had one triumph. Steve Smith. He was batting all along, but his partners kept going back to the pavilion. The tail enders were unable to keep up with the phase of Josephs. Lyon's wicket was taken by Alzarri Joseph, making things easy for Shamar Joseph.

But Steve Smith is not easy giving up. He played some unorthodox shots to get him into the 90s. And 9 runs to win, but when he got off strike, Josh Hazelwood had to negotiate just 2 balls for Shamar Joseph. He's going to bowl the one who injured his toes. And boy, he delivered a peach of a delivery to knock off the off stump to give the Windies a remarkable win.

The media showed that the great Brian Lara was in tears while commentating. He said this could be the rebirth of Windies Cricket. Shamar Joseph ended up with 7-fer, making him the man of the match and also the man of the series. At the end, he delivered a hell of a speech too. I hope you'll watch it..
