As we all know , football is a famous game all around the world. Everyone loves that game without an age difference. I think there are more than 300 million who play this game and 65000 play this game as an occupation. So guys, I'm gonna tell you about the origin of this game and the historical moments of this world cup.
This game also originated in England. In the past, the factorie’s labourers had played this game and also this played by school children.But there were no rules for this. They just played as a hit to the ball using their legs. In 1863, some school teams had assembled and they made some rules for the game. The very first game after the rules had been held on 1863 December 19th at Mortlake Barnes common playground in london city. The participating teams were Barnes and Richmond football associations.
Football can be described as a team sport consisting of eleven players per team.
The game is played on a grassy or natural rectangular shaped turf and the winning goal is located at both ends. The opposing team can score their own goals by directing the ball into the goal post at the end. The team with the most goals wins and the match ends. The trophy has been awarded every four years since the inaugural tournament in 1930, except when it was not held due to World War II in 1942 and 1946.
✨ 1930: 1st world cup game
This is the first time in the history of world football that all matches have been played in the same city. Held in Montevideo, Uruguay. There were 7 teams from North America, 2 from South America and 4 from Europe. Many countries did not participate due to cost and lack of knowledge about this sport.
Uruguay was the host country. Also, the Uruguay team was lucky to win the match against to argentina. 4-2 goals were recorded. Mexico and France, Belgium and the United States were the first to compete. Argentina were ahead in the competition but eventually won Uruguay.

16 teams participated. The host country was the Italyand it was held at the stadio nazionale in rome. Also they won the finals against to czechoslovakia. One extra goal led to the victory by the Italy team.

Held in France. Argentina first hoped to host the World Cup this year. However, that year they lost the hosts and France got that opportunity . So in this year Argentina did not play for Fifa.
Finally the Fifa cup was won again by the Italy team. Final games between Italy and Hungary. 4-2 goals recorded. Really competitive games.

This year was a special occasion. In 1920, the British team decided not to play in the World Cup, but for the first time at the invitation of FIFA, they competed this year.So it was a special thing in this year. The host country was brazil. The Uruguay team scored more goals than Brazil. It has recorded 2-1 goals.

Games were held at Wankdorf stadium. Thousands of fans came there to celebrate victory and give support to their teams.
This year Germany won the world cup for the first time at switzerland. They competed with Hungary. 3-2 goals were recorded. Sandor Kocsis was the best player in this year and he scored 11 goals in all games.

Who was the winner ? The victory went to Brazil. They scored 5 goals!! Sweden team could only get 2 goals for their country. Sweden was also the host and at Rasunda stadium held the ginal game. At this game a super player fight unbelievably. His name is Pele. when he plyaed for FIFA he was just 17 years. However , he played very well and he scored 13 goals and become man of the tournament. The very special thing was his skills in that year.

Again the second time Brazil won the FIFA cup.They played well and got 3 goals against Czechoslovakia at chile.

98000 people attained for finals at the stadium .England was the host and also the victory got by them. Semi finals was held with portugal and the runners up was Germany.
✨ 1970 : 9 th World cup
Games were held in Mexico. The Winner was brazil. Brazil's team proved again their success in football. Mario Salgo was the trainer of this team. The team was well practiced by him. This is the third time Brazil has been the winner. They played with Italy and scored 4-1. Italy was also a world cup winner. So this time the final game was so competitive.However, brazil team won the game by using their methods.

16 countries competed. 38 games played. Germany was the host and the winner. The runners-up was Netherland and third place was poland.
✨ 1978 : 11th World cup
After 40 years Argentina was lucky to be the host of FIFA. Sixteen countries competed in the 1978 FIFA World Cup with Argentina competing in Group I against Hungary, France, and Italy. All three countries were very powerful.
Argentina won the finals 3-1 against Holland.
✨ 1982 : 12th FIFA games
Spain did as the host. 24 teams were played. Italy and Germany competed. Italy was the winner. Paolo Rossi was the best player in Italy team and also he won the golden boot.

The host country was Mexico. After a very competitive game Argentina got the cup against Germany by a 3-2 score.

Germany scored a goal in time against Argentina. Italy was the host.

Games were held in the USA. The Winner was Brazil. They played with Italy and scored 3-2. At these games Roger Mila, a 42 - year - old Cameroonian, was the player who scored maximum goals. He scored in the 1994 match against Russia.

The host country was France. Winners also France. Brazil couldn't score any goals against France. Brazil team scored 3 goals.
✨ 2002 : 17th World cup
The match took place in the International stadium in South korea. Finals were contested by Germany and Brazil. The winner was Brazil. They scored two goals.
✨ 2006 : 18th World Cup
Italy was the winner. Runner up was france.
The host was Germany. This may be the best fifa games in the history. Because Almost all the strong teams that participated in the 2006 FIFA World Cup were very strong Teams. All of those groups powerful by best players. So many players so young and well practiced. For examples, Lucas Podolski, Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Robin van Persie, Iron Robben and Cristiano Ronaldo. I am sure you all fans of them.

Firstly the African country campaigned as the host. South Africa was the host. Spain scored a goal against Nederland. This is the first time that Nederland competed in a final game.

This time the games were held in Brazil.

Germany got the victory that proved again they were nimrods.

Russia was the host country.
At this time France practiced as a strong team. After 20 years this team was lucky to win the final game. They won this game through 32 teams. At the 18th minute they scored their 1st goal. But again at the 28th minute croatia team scored their 1st goal. So the game was so competitive and all fans were so excited. However, France won the first round.

I think in our country football is not as popular as cricket . And our national team must practice more. Our country does not even participate in the semi-final rounds. so we must improve them. You all know there are so many legends in football like diego maradona, Critiano Ronaldo , Lionel messi, Paolo Maldini etc. Let us hope that similar talented players will emerge in Sri Lanka and that football will reach the level of cricket.

There was a football march Sri-Lanka Vs Lebanon on 5th June 2021 and the performance of our players was in good level at that match. But we lost the match and hope we will become good competitors.
