Periods

While periods is one of the natural bodily function just like poop or pee and happens to half of the world's population it still has a certain stigma attached to it. Talking about periods is still a taboo. We are putting many women's at risk by not talking about periods. Many young girls in 'not so privileged' sections of society put themselves at risk due to lack of knowledge about periods and the hygiene they should follow.

In india, the times are changing, but still women during periods are not allowed to visit temples, enter kitchen and of course the pickle bottle is kept away from them. Why? Nobody knows the real reason behind why it is done do. This has been going on for ages are we are following it blindly because our parents, their parents and their parents have been doing so. I personally believe, that the restrictions were to help women get some rest during her periods back in the times when a woman had to perform many tasks to run a household. However, they had help due to other family members in joint family and they could observe their rest, it is not so in today's nuclear family.

Thanks to lot many you tube videos and Advertisements that have been provoking people to accept periods as just another function of a body, but we still get pads wrapped in black polythene while condoms are openly handed over. In schools, girls are seperated from boys and taught about menstrual hygiene while boys are not given any clue about this which leads to them making fun of a girl in the class if she gets her period suddenly.

While there are lots menstrual hygiene products like menstrual cups and tampons people just know about pads which is a million dollar business and is harming the environment tremendously.

I hope things change soon.
