I hate pets but love animals

I hate pets, but I am an animal lover. Sounds weird right? Not actually. As said I loved animals and I still do, but pets is a different thing. Having a breathing soul within the limits of your fence makes you attached to it. I was the one among the members in the house who always wanted a pet. I had to fight with my parents to get a pet dog.

We named the pet dog 'Ditty'. It was a joyous stray that I had picked while I went shopping with mum. I loved that dog which grew healthy and plumb. Ditty was loved by all in the neighborhood. She was a happy dog that knew how to please people. I happily took her around to poop and pee every evening and morning. She used to accompany my dad and mum during their evening walks.

One day while they were on their usual walk, ditty was hit by a truck. I was home when my dad came running to tell me what had happened. We gave her a decent burial, but I was devastated. It took my family around a week to get a smile from me. I felt something missing at home. Home was no longer home without Ditty, but things had to normalize and it did.

May be a year later we got another dog and we named it 'Petty'. Petty was as joyous as Ditty was. But, she too met with an accident and I just couldn't take it. I am a very emotional person and my pet's death left me devastated. I couldn't stop crying for over 3 days andy parents just couldn't see me mourn that way and decided that no matter what, we will never have another pet at home.

I have left my parents home for around 12 years now, but still the rule persists. They still don't have a pet and they say they never will because they can't see me mourn. I on the other hand have told my husband and kids that we will never have a pet, so don't even bother me asking permissions.

Pets carve a place for themselves in our hearts when they stay with us and seeing them die helplessly breaks hearts.
