Introduction

Greetings to everyone here. Here comes another opportunity to post more and engage more in the last week of the engagement challenge for season 3.

This particular contest caught my fancy. When I was a child I was dreaming of becoming an adult so that I will have my own house, children and have the funds to buy anything I want. At some point in primary 4, my friends and I, would be robbing sulphur 8 cream on our side beards because we want to grow facial hairs and look like adults 😄. So basically, every child dreams of being an adult, while some adults want to become kids again because of the pressure associated with being an adult. In any case, we can't take back the hand of the clock.

Who is considered as a child in your country? Include age

Smiles. A child is someone who's still in the circle of childhood stage. At this stage in life, the individual is NOT independent, he/she depends on his parents for almost everything viz: feeding, clothing, education, advice among others. A child is under the roof of his parents and so cannot be free to make certain decisions.

The truth is that such stage is fun and free of worries. This is because a child does not have the headache of thinking of how to pay house rent, take care of feeding, take care of clothing, hospital bills, utility bills, and the pressure of helping relatives.

It is a free world at this particular stage in life, although children always yearn to be adults, you see them wearing their fathers shoes secretly, taking their mothers make-up tools, applying their mothers' perfume and always trying to grow beards by rubbing hair growth creams.

In my country Nigeria, any individual at the age of 12 or below is considered a child.

Who is considered as an adult in your country? Include age

An adult is that individual who has passed through the childhood and teenage stage of life. Basically we address anyone from 18 years of age and above as an adult in Nigeria. They are liable to their decisions and can be charged for any crime they commit at this stage.

An adult is someone in the stage of adulthood and so such individual is almost independent and is already seeing the world from a proper view.

An 18 year had just finished high school and so could be doing a degree in the university, a diploma in a polytechnic, learning a skill or a trade. The parents barely give them all they need at this stage in life. Some persons are in a family where after high school, they dont get a single support from the family anymore, they have to face the world squarely which means that shelter, food, clothing, and every other expenses are on their shoulders already.

Adulthood is quite demanding and comes with plenty of pressure from the society. This stage means that the individual is closer to achieving his or her children dreams such being a doctor, nurse, lawyer, entrepreneur, trader, artisan, civil servant and other dreams. Sometimes, the road to achieve this dreams is rough and so it makes this stage of life to be tough, but with persistence and focus, the individual will scale through and have a decent adulthood.

Childhood or Adulthood, which do you prefer?

Despite the challenges associated with this stage. I will always prefer adulthood anyday, anytime. I love to move forward, needless of looking back. I am entitled to my opinion though.

Give at least 3 reasons why you prefer childhood or adulthood

Like I mentioned in the last paragraph. I would prefer adulthood to childhood for the following reasons.

•Independence:
Adulthood is a stage of almost an utter independence. The individual is as free as air to make decisions, do things the way he wants, and not been ordered around by anyone. It is stage where one has enough time of his own to explore new opportunities, take risks, learn new things and also get more experiences.

•Taking the bull by the horn:
We all know that no one would ever remain a child forever, adulthood is something that must come as far as christ tarries. So since it is something that must come to pass, no need of shying away from it, I prefer to welcome it and start living in it.

What I am saying is that I prefer to take the bull by horn, facing adulthood and overcoming the challenges is something that I love so much. Postponing this stage of life makes no sense, because it is something that must come pass in the life of every individual.

•Achieving our dreams:
We all at some point have dreams of what we wanted to become in the future. We had good dreams of how to become professionals, artisans, fathers and mother and other dreams.

But we can't attain any of this dreams if we continue to be a child, adulthood is the stage where we have the opportunity to actualize our childhood. At this stage, we make money to raise a family, take care of our parents, help the needy and contribute our own quota to the society.

Conclusion

This contest is a very interesting one. It has caused me to reflect childhood memories and dreams and has almost spurred me to face adulthood with focus and passion. Life has different stages and each stage is a lesson, the lessons of childhood and teenage stage will surely help every adult to thrive in this stage of adulthood. I know other persons will have a different of opinion of the stage of life they prefer, we all are free to express our thoughts.
