Dragon's Shiryū

Shiryū is the Dragon Bronze Saint during the Holy Wars in the 20th Century (1990). Shiryū is considered to be the most prudent and wise of the Bronze Saints - being that he was a disciple of the great old master Dohko of Libra - and is one of the main characters in the series of manga and anime Saint Seiya, known as The Knights of the Zodiac.

In the CD Drama Do Cvidanja and in the spinoffs Saint Seiya Episode G - Assassin and Saint Seiya Omega, Shiryū was promoted to Gold Saint of the constellation Libra, as well as the mention in Next Dimension that will be the successor of Libra.

Characteristics

Appearance

Shiryu is a tall young man with black hair (both anime and manga) and quite long. His eyes are green, sometimes greenish gray. It does not have particular signs, but it always has a serene face. More than being serious is peaceful and usually frequently meets with closed eyes.

Shiryu has a tattoo on his back, a dragon that appears every time his cosmos rises to the maximum, and whose right claw marks the exact point where Shiryu's heart is located when when not mastering his technique leaves that space unprotected. The origin of the tattoo is unknown, and apparently appears only by the cosmos of Shiryu.

It was said in Next Dimension that only before the men destined to the pound armor reveal that kind of tattoos, a feature that apparently shares with his master Dohko, since in his case the face of a tiger is revealed on his back when it releases all its power symbolizing in a way what is said in Chinese culture about the tiger and the dragon.

In Saint Seiya Omega, Shiryu has green eyes, her hair is black and long, she is tall and as usual she wears the typical Chinese dress of purple color.

Personality

Shiryu is a noble person, with a strong sense of honor. He always stands out for being willing to sacrifice himself for his friends and likewise shows them great gratitude and loyalty, as he was able to see when Seiya saved his life in his fight in the galactic tournament. His sense of sacrifice was what made Shura react and for that Shura gave him his cosmos to use his Excalibur technique.

Frequently, Shiryu detaches herself from her armor because she believes that it makes her dependent on her and can not deploy all her power, taking her body to unexpected limits.

Shiryu seems to represent very well the ideals of the saints of Athena, because that is why he was motivated to defeat Mask of Death, which did not behave like a noble and worthy warrior. Likewise, Shiryu is not a person who lets herself be carried away by fury and hatred, except the only time she really showed all her rage against Mask of Death. Shiryu affirmed to hate him with all his being and it would unload all his fury on him until seeing it dead to touch to his greater treasure in the world, Shunrei. And even feeling hatred for an enemy, Shiryu was unable to attack his enemy with an advantage and shed her armor to fight on equal terms.

The death of his teacher affected him terribly as can be seen in Next Dimension, where all his composure fell apart when he had Dohko's cane in his hands and seeing him again in the past Shiryu could not contain his emotion, not even because he told him about the future could bring serious consequences.

Your young teacher even calls him "boring", but it is part of Shiryu's personality, to be a noble and loyal person. However, in the Saga of Hades, he tells him that he is quite stubborn in meddling in his master's battle against Shion of Aries.

In omega Shiryu is a wise man with a calm, meditative and reflective spirit. He is ruled by duty and blindly believes in the destiny of the Athena Saints who are born predestined to live to protect peace and love on Earth. As a teacher of his son, Shiryu can be very hard and strict, as well as disciplined, but that is his way of forming him in the way of a Saint. He loves both his wife and his son from the heart.

History

Childhood

Shiryū was in Graude Foundation, owned by Mitsumasa Kido, as well as the rest of his half brothers (manga) when he was selected to be sent to a training center and get armor. In the draw to select a training place, Shiryū had to go to the Five Peaks of China, where he would train with the old master of the place, Dohko de Libra.

Training

After her arrival, Shiryu met her teacher (who would be like a father) and Shunrei a very special girl for whom Shiryu would develop great feelings. In the anime he also trained with a boy named Okko, although Okko did not remain long under the tutelage of Dohko .

After six years of training, Shiryū managed to meet the corresponding challenge to win the Dragon armor and be recognized as a Saint of Athena. The challenge was to flow the great cascade of Rozan towards the sky, because according to legend, the great waterfall had descended from the Milky Way and whoever wanted to obtain the dragon armor should return the waterfall to its origins.

The Galactic Tournament

After getting his armor, Shiryū participates in the Galactic Tournament and in his first (and only) fight he faces Seiya, Saint of Pegasus.

At the beginning, the dragon saint takes the advantage, as it is indicated has the hardest fist and the strongest shield among the Bronze Saints. However, in the middle of the fight when it takes to win, Shunrei appears, and brings him news that his teacher is about to die. This leaves Shiryū baffled by the news and this makes it overcome little by little by Seiya, who destroys his fist and shield in a suicide attack. Because of this both continue the battle without their armors.

Finally, Seiya defeats Shiryū taking advantage of the weak point of the Dragon's attack; the blow of Pegasus stops Shiryū's heartbeat. Finding himself almost on the verge of death, he is saved by Seiya, who hits him violently on the back to activate his heart again. Note that after this fight creates a special bond between Seiya and Shiryū that binds them strongly because Seiya saved his life.

Jamir

As a thank you to Seiya for saving his life, Shiryu carries the Cloths of Pegasus and Dragon with the only armor repairman that exists: Mu, which is in Jamir. Once Shiryū meets this one, he finds that only by giving a large amount of his blood can he revive the armor that has died.

For his gratitude towards Seiya, Shiryu does not hesitate to give his blood to repair the armor, especially that of Pegasus, because Seiya owes his life. Faced with such sacrifice, Mu helps him not to lose so much blood and can repair the two armors.

In the sleeve the armors have a slight evolution in this repair.

The Black Saints

Manga: Shiryu arrives at the battle site on Mount Fuji and wears his dragon armor aided by Kiki. The big difference with the anime is that Shiryu confronts two black knights in the darkness of the caverns, since one of them was blind he could move well in the dark, Shiryu discovered his existence and defeated him and then defeated his brother.

Anime: In the confrontation with the Black Saints, led by Ikki, Shiryū faces his double, the Black Dragon Saint, who takes advantage in the fight, because Shiryū is just recovering from having given half of his blood to repair the Pegasus Armor and Dragon Armor.

To defeat him, Shiryū has to liberate all his cosmos. To do this, he frees himself from the Dragon's armor and, using his Ascending Dragon, finally defeats his opponent. This effort causes the blood to flow from Shiryū's body through his pores. Resigned to die, he is finally saved by the Black Dragon, who uses his technique to stop Shiryu's bleeding, as Shiryu has managed to convince him with his sacrifice that it is worth fighting for friends.

The Silver Saints

Shiryū confronts Algol of Perseus who uses his Medusa shield to turn Seiya and Shun to stone. Shiryū is at a disadvantage, because he can not face Algol without looking at him. He tries to attack Algol by covering his eyes, but the Medusa shield turns his arm into stone.

Shiryū makes a decision: with his own fingers he attacks his eyes and finally, unaffected by the power of the Medusa shield, defeats Argol with his Rising Dragon. With the destruction of the shield, Seiya and Shun return to normality.

In the anime, when it is about to be defeated, the Steel Saints appear, who initially offer resistance, but are then defeated.

The Tiger and the Dragon

In the anime he faces Okko, who was once his fellow disciple and rival for the possession of the Dragon Armor.

The Sanctuary killer

After losing her sight against Argol, Shiryu was adapting to her life as a blind person. In fact, he had dedicated himself to working the land in the Five Peaks. Dohko asked if he liked that life more, to which Shiryu replied that yes, that peaceful life and in contact with nature gave him more satisfaction than fighting for Saori because he did not feel devotion and did not need to wear his armor again.

When Mask of Death of Cancer came to take the life of the old Master, Shiryu confronted him but the differences in level were too obvious to such an extent that it could have ended in the death of the saint if not for the intervention (and revelation) of Mu of Aries, who caused that battle to end before Mask of Death used the Infernal Waves against Dragon.

Mascara de Muerte retired, telling Shiryu that if he wanted a rematch he would be waiting for him in the sanctuary.

The Battle of the 12 Temples

Temple of Aries

He ​​has a brief confrontation with Mū de Aries, who presents himself as an enemy. However, the Gold Saint was just testing them. There, Mū repairs his Cloth with the other four Bronze pertaining to his companions and is instructed in the knowledge of the true cosmos: the Seventh Sense.

Taurus Temple

Shiryū is despondent (like the rest of his companions, except Seiya) and the beginning of the combat is lost. Then he joins the rest of the Bronze Saints to fight against Aldebaran and in a combined attack with Hyōga they manage to freeze the arms of the Holy One of Gold, so Aldebaran allows them to go to the stairs that lead to the House of Gemini.

In the manga, Aldebaran lets them pass without a previous fight by the Santos trio.

Temple of Gemini

Shiryū and the others enter the House of Gemini together. However, on leaving they note that they are again in the entrance, but this time there are two temples of Gemini. Enter with Seiya in the temple on the right. There they are presented with the illusion of the Saint of Gemini, but Shiryū, being blind, is not affected. When perceiving that the entrance is just behind the supposed Holy of Gold, they manage to leave unharmed of this temple, without being within reach of the effects of the illusion.

Temple of Cancer

Face the Holy Dorado Mask of Death, who has a malignant and sadistic mentality. With the attack Cancer Infernal Waves, Shiryū is sent to the door of the world of the dead, there he sees Hyoga walking towards the Yomotsu. Shiryu tries to save Hyoga, but Athenea appears and tells him that if he goes there, he could not get out of the way and end up falling into Yomotsu. Athena returns him again to the temple of Cancer, but falls into the Hell Waves again, there he is again about to be defeated. However, Mask of Death commits the grave error of attacking Shunrei (who was praying to protect Shiryu) telepathically, which provokes the wrath of Shiryu, who attacks Mask of Death without mercy. However, thanks to the golden armor, Mask of Death does not suffer any damage. During the fight, Shiryu attacks Death Mask's leg and the golden armor of this one falls off. Then he attacks the arm and so on until the armor leaves Mask of Death for its evil soul.

Shiryu does not want to fight with an advantage and takes off his armor. Shiryu awakens his seventh sense and manages to send Mask of Death down the Yomotsu, an abyss that leads to the World of the Dead. Due to this effort he manages to recover his sight.

House of Libra

Upon arriving in Libra, Shiryu and his companions find Hyoga locked in the Ice Coffin in which Camus left him confined. The Libra armor is presented to help them and Shiryu has to make the choice of the correct weapon that will free Hyoga from the ice without hurting him. Finally, Shiryu decides by a sword of the Armor of Libra, and after a cut of sword manages to free to Hyōga of the Coffin of Ice.

Capricorn House

The bronze knights arrive at the house of Capricorn and apparently they have crossed without problems, but at the exit they were waiting for Capricorn Shura. Shiryu lets his friends go ahead while he stays to fight against the golden knight.

Shura takes advantage in the combat with his Excalibur technique and the edge of his arms, totally destroying the armor and dragon shield, as well as confessing that he was the one who killed the traitor Aioros 13 years ago. Shura manages to see the weak point of the Shiryu technique and attacks it directly to the heart, but Shiryu takes advantage of that to break Shura's hand. Shiryu does not have many opportunities left.

Anime: Shiryu manages to cut off Shura's hand instead of just breaking it.

Shiryu accumulates his cosmos to the fullest and decides to execute the forbidden technique taught him by his master, the Last Dragon, with which Shura is taken out of the Earth's atmosphere so that both become cosmic dust by friction upon ascending to the space.

While they are ascending, Shura asks Shiryu why he sacrifices himself if he loses his life too, to which Shiryu replies that he is a true gentleman and that his life is for Athena.

Shura is surprised, admitting that he has failed more than as a golden knight as a knight of Athena. At the last moment Shura recognizes that he was mistaken and sheds her golden armor, which is attached to the body of the dragon and protects it from a death burned in the atmosphere. He also transfers part of his cosmos to the right arm of Shiryu (hence Shiryu will later be able to execute the Shura technique) and sends him back to Earth while he becomes stardust.

Meeting with Ikki

Manga: when Ikki goes from the Virgo Temple to the pontiff's chamber, when passing through Capricorn he meets Shiryu, whom he sees falling with the Capricorn armor and from whom he says goodbye, thanking both the universe for having been able to meet and be born like brothers.

Temple of Athena

Anime: Shiryū, Hyōga and Shun freshly saved from death by Athena, react to see Seiya practically destroyed by the attacks of Saga. The three attack the Saint of Gemini, but their powers are returned to them. Despite his terrible injuries and not having his five senses Seiya gets up again. The other Bronze Saints, motivated by this attitude, react and light their cosmos to the fullest and unite with Seiya who defeats the evil power that dominated the mind of Saga.

War in Asgard

Shiryū went to the Five Peaks of China to check with his teacher about what happened. His master told him that Hilda had been dominated by the power of the Nibelungo Ring, and that to break her spell they would need Balmung's sword, which was part of the Armor of Odin. But to be able to have the sword of Balmung they had to join the seven sapphires of Odín, that were in the armors of the Gods Guerreros.

Reach Asgard just in time to protect Seiya from Thor's attack of Phecda Gamma and tell him about what happened in China.
