First flight
Today was a special day because after getting through the endless corporate red tape I was finally able to fly my drone on the construction site.
This is me getting my shit together....
And we're up!
That house you can see bottom left is where I am living. Not so far from the brown fields of the construction site in the distance. It's a 5 min walk or a 30 sec flight!
The mapping mission
The compound area is always the first thing to be built. It provides parking, storage, offices & canteens for all the contractors. The opening of my film will focus on a google earth type time-lapse, showing the the progression of this area from above.
This is what the compound area looked like on google earth two months ago.
Here it is the day before any equipment arrived.
And here it is today, just two weeks later.
Digital 'reality'
Using the metadata recorded with each shot during the mapping sequence I can convert the map to an interactive digital interpretation, as you can see here.
This is my first attempt, so go easy on me. More detail is required before I can use this 3D map to fly through, giving my film the ability to switch seamlessly between the real world and the digital world.
My intention is to map the entire site in this way as it expands out across an enormous area of 198 acres.
In the end I will have something like this:
Only it will be way cooler because satellite images are updated so rarely. Unless you are willing to pay a small fortune for satellite time!
My system is cheap, but it is going to take a lot of man hours to achieve.
No one has ever pulled off what I am about to do ;)
So.... onward & upward!
