The path to mastery (1min read)

in #life8 years ago (edited)

This article is dedicated to everyone who has the urge to create something beautiful in this world:

But first let's see what's currently happening:

We grow up in a world where television advertise the quick success. Take this pill, and immediately everything will be great. Play the lottery, because you don't have to work hard to be rich. Buy the body-slimmer and get fit on your sofa.

Almost all advertising is proclaiming no effort and instant results.

As this may seem subtle, but this new values changed the way a society approaches life.

We seek and expect the constant highs, and when a low comes along, we have always a tool to overcome it. A coffee, a drug, another partner, the internet, or any other quick-fix.

We learn to believe that we can attain expertise without effort. And when effort and struggle arises "it's perhaps not our thing".

There are so many choices, and we end up doing everything but nothing...

This way of thinking, in a world of unlimited choices, lets people hop from place to place, without ever mastering one thing. Because as soon something gets tough we run away - believing "not being born for it".

Yet, it's not a secret that, becoming good at something, we've got to put in the work - and stay consistent. Even when struggles arise. Because they are a part of the 'forging' process. A part of making you great.

How can we forget this? Because all we see in the mainstream are "winners" (apart from the total losers) - we see them celebrate but not how they freakin' dedicated their lives for it in the endless hours of training and setbacks - behind the curtains.

It didn't stop them, and that's why they belong to the top.

The quick-fix-drug solution hasn't brought us anywhere in history, not to fulfillment, not even to a sustainable way of living. It's literally self-destructive.

Now here are my 2 cents on what needs to happen:

We need to re-think and re-approach the way we do things.

How tempting it is to start something, and then quitting again as soon as you hit a "plateau". Even if that "plateau" is nothing else than a part of the learning that forges you.

The path is stacked with obstacles. Of course it is. It is here to test and challenge and eventually teach and expand you. It's significant for growth.

There are many choices - but let's pick something. And do it. And go for it. Because with all the pain, also comes a deeper sense of being alive.

What I know for certain: We are all constantly learning, for our whole lives. And perhaps that's even what gives us a sense meaning to our existence.

Sort:

Challenge is what keeps us alive! To be constantly challenged is to be constantly learning and growing, but the danger is that we over-challenge ourselves sometimes, and that can lead to frustration...

yep, I believe we need both. The comfort and the challenge. Both extremes can "kill" us.

Technology is brought about from the hardwork of some people. It will be fine if we also task our brain too to innovate what we hace now
