A half-life lived for others
Rocking on branches laden with twigs
Such an ill-formed
Nest
of stinging nettles
And thorns
Such poor preparation
For such a long flight
Back home
Into new horizons and thermals
That sail me higher than
My wings ever dared
Unfolding and flittering
Anticipation
Fear and fancy and all things dangerous
All these things
That kept me so long
Cowering in down and duty
Dedication to nothing
But a mouthful of worms
The taste of dirt
becoming
a delicacy
Shaking off the last fledgeling feathers
Talons finally sharpened
Defense
Not to feed
Clawing and cawing
Screeching myself free
Shredding the woven cage
That had twisted around
and laden down
all these years
Taking flight
Soaring
To make my own home.

The cycle man! I just came back from a court, was playing some basketball. In one basket of the two, where I was playing I saw a bird, kind of stressed out I was throwing the ball at the basket. The basket is mounted over a football goal, tubes about 13 or 15 cm of diameter. Hollow tubes. There's a spot where the tubes are soldered with the frame of the basket. There, is an open of the tubes. So the birdie was veryinsistent there. I stopped and realized there she has her nest. I actually could hear the hatch-lings all stressed out because I was throwing like a maniac a ball to their little house. I went to the other basket and had my jam there. I returned and put a little message in the tube, so other people would know and perhaps behave more humane. But who knows.
