Aussie Differences- Critters- The U.S.S. Minnowprize!
Let's take a peek at two animals that are distinctly different but share the same name!
Possums!
In the states, usually when you say "possum", the image of a wire haired ball of rabies comes to mind.
It is the only marsuprial in The USA and encountering one in the wild can be a bit startling. They love to let out a hiss that sounds the hellspawn of a cat and snake.
In Australia, the word "possum" invokes a "DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW" from somewhere deep in my chest cavity.
They are soft to the touch like a huge chinchilla and are made of rainbows and all things good. (The baby jumped on me and I almost vomited from the sheer cuteness.)
Notable differences:
- Not the devil.
- pleasant to pet.
- will gladly take bread from your hand and you will not draw back a nub where your finger used to be.
Notable similarities:
- Will eat pretty much anything.
- babies are carried in pouches and on back.
Turkeys!
The American turkey:
Austrailian Turkey:
Gaze upon this Jurassic Park looking son of a bitch. LOOK AT IT.
It's like a velociraptor and a buzzard made a hideous love child.
Notable differences:
- horrifying.
- should have died with the dinosaurs. Didn't.
- doesn't have face balls.
Notable similarities:
- possibly edible?
- weird feet.
Bonus Australian Animal Fun Facts!
Cassowary
- The third tallest and second heaviest bird in the world.
- Has a horn much like a minature feathered rhino.
- Eats primarily fruits but probably eats people.
Frill Neck Lizard
- can be found primarily in trees.
- lives in trees so it is easier to take you by surprise (speculation, but I doubt I am far from the truth).
- usually kept as pets. (freakin' Aussies...)
Koalas!
- ... over half of the population carries chlamydia.

So gla to see arround us there is amazing anilmals but we havent see the most of them .we do feel love for them the are the part of our world thank youbfor sharing such amazing news about animals love you always blessd .
Cassowary are actually omnivorous. They are also really shy unless you tick them of and then you are in trouble as they can kill people. Got to love our Aussie animals.
Oh and FYI, I wouldn’t feed those cute possums to much either otherwise you will end up with their entire extended family living in your roof. No sleep will ever be had again.
