Oil on Canvas – Earning via Therapy

in #art8 years ago

an artsy person and have been meaning to buy a nice painting for that one wall you left plain because you know that nothing but an oil painting would compliment that wall the best, you have stumbled upon the perfect read for yourself. In fact, even if you don’t have a place to hang that painting over at the moment and you are only interested in exploring the medium, you have still come to the right place. Why? Well, there are multiple reasons for exploring oil painting that I am going to discuss here. As an artist, I can myself vouch for the fact that artists yearn for appreciation and criticism alike. For an artist, the most important thing is to get the point across laymen. We all are aware of how inspiration draws one to different paintings but what I am going to talk about here is how to actually bring your skill to use in a way that it makes you earn good money through it.

Selling and buying Art has been gaining popularity online over the last decade and has in fact formed the shape of an online business. If you really think about it, It’s a win-win situation for both the artist and the client. Both the artist and the client benefit from it like any other online dealing. Of course, it might have its own downsides as well but it also depends on the kind of dealing you carry. Here are some brief pointers to understand what you might be getting into and what it has to offer you.

Advantages for the Artist:
• The artist doesn’t have to invest in exhibitions and arrangements in a gallery. However, the delivery cost may be added.
• The artist doesn’t have to worry about a number of people showing up at the exhibition. All the marketing strategy is carried online.
• To advertise one's painting, the artist can just make either a website, a blog or a simple add-on any popular website.

Advantages for the Client:
• Clients can just view a number of websites selling art online along with their cost and other medium details.

Categories:
For buying art online, one must know the different categories these art pieces come in. Along with the categories, you must also know the difference between ranges of different mediums and understand the different styles artists have to offer. So you know that you’re not being ripped off and the painting you are going for is original or simply be aware of its value.
Following are some basic categories that you can choose from when buying art online:
• Landscape

• Abstract

Different artists excel in different styles and if you want to start your own business then you must identify your strengths and style. It has to have that one factor that defines your style and makes it different from all others. That’s what will add extra value to it. Oil paints, water paints, dry pastels, oil pastels, pencils are few of the most popular mediums that attract people towards a painting and are easy to practice as well.

There are many buying and selling platforms online that let you sell your paintings and have people comment on them. Likewise, buyers can simply browse through your work on these platforms and contact you once they like something. Buying is made easier for sellers through categories because it lets them choose from their favourite styles as well as the artists they follow.

Things you need to start your online Business as an Artist:
It's true that an artist does have to invest quite some amount in buying material and tools. However, these tools, if bought from the right place having good quality have the tendency to last for years. Do the key is to invest in the right tools. The basic tools only include a canvas, a brush, oil paints set and thinner. Everything else is available online to get you started! For example, here is a short video that could help you out with strokes on canvas for the first time.

Trust me, once you get your hands on the canvas, it will be hard to let go of it without finishing off the painting. You would want to spend your whole day with it, applying different styles of strokes and playing with colours, understanding the medium.
I would say, even if you are slightly interested in paints and colours and bringing your thoughts to canvas then give it a try today! Also, please share your first piece with me! I would love to guide you further. :) Goodluck!

I've never worked in oils myself. I always work in acrylic. I love that it dries so fast! lol I started painting when I was on a tight budget after losing a job and acrylics were more affordable, so since then I just stuck with them lol I agree once you get into painting, it's hard to stop! 3 years after I made my first painting I quit my day job to do art full time. Now 3 years and a bit after I quit my job, I'm still at it full time. It hasn't always been easy, but neither is working a job you don't like! lol

I totally understand your feeling.

Nice article! How i wish i can paint like you
