The Dreamcast: The Most Underrated Gaming Console of All Time and Why!

Before being a gaming publisher , Sega made gaming consoles such the Genesis. The successor of the Sega Saturn was the Sega Dreamcast. The Dreamcast was the first console to come out in the sixth generation gaming era. At the time being crushed by Sony’s PlayStation, Sega had to release a new competitor in to the gaming market and fast. That was then when Sega came out with the Dreamcast. The console is still legendary and considered to some the best console ever. There even has been high demand from the public for Sega to produce a Dreamcast 2. A Kick Starter was even created. The Dreamcast is in my opinion, one of the greatest ever. Here is why the Dreamcast is a console that every game collector should own.

Released in Japan on November of 1998, the Dreamcast didn’t make it to the US and Europe almost a full year later on September of 1999 (9/9/99). The console came out as a huge hit and with universal acclaim. The graphics were the best at the time and had a great line up of games. The Dreamcast was on cloud nine, that is until the PlayStation 2 (PS2) was released, and then Sega along with the Dreamcast slowly made its way to the guillotine.

The Dreamcast was a first of its kind. It had an online modem, four controller ports and a beautiful modern design. The console had one of the best gaming line-ups, EVER! The games were top notch and untouchable at the time (I think it still is). Capcom, the makers of the legendary Street Fighter franchise had the best games on the console.

Games like Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 were made on the Dreamcast first, before it was released for the PS2 and Xbox a few years later. This version of Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 is considered to be the best version of the game. Better then the PS2 and Xbox ports. Capcom also came out with amazing games such as Power stone 1 and 2, Project Justice, Street Fighter III the first strike and Cannon Spike. Collectors seek after most of these games. If you see any of these at a good price, I highly suggest to grab them for the very fact that they are rare. MarvelVSCapcom2_DC-BOX2005_US.jpeg

Other games such as Soul Caliber, Dynamite Cop, Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, Phantasy Star Online and JetSet Radio were gems that the Dreamcast had in their lineup. There were a few horrible games for the console, unlike other consoles that release a ton of shovelwear. The Dreamcast didn’t have that problem. The games were made with good intentions for the gaming community. img158.jpeg

The Dreamcast was ahead of its time. The consoles stint didn’t last too long as it was discontinued two years later from its release. It had a small library of games that were developed state side, but even with a small library, the Dreamcast has one of the greatest game libraries of ever. If you are a hardcore gamer, I highly suggest to get one and understand the experience. It is up there with the Wii U when it comes to being underrated. This game console should never be forgotten. @gaming-trail I kinda disagree. The controller was bulky, but it had a nice feel to it. The VMU was a great addition, Don't you think?

I'm not saying it wasn't comfortable to use.

I'm saying it looked too... how to call it... unmodern

I agree, lol

The dreamcast was definitely one of my favorite consoles. In fact I was introduced to it before I was introduced to the Nintendo 64 (another of my all time favorites). My favorite game was toy commander, along with the racing games.

Dreamcast went out on top with a selection of great games. Such a shame the way things turned out.
