Whatsapp is just another tool of Facebook. it basically is a messaging app. You can have different groups to send your message to. People use it either for private groups or have big groups. Kind of like a messaging group on Twitter.
I wish I understood whatsapp. I'm in Malaysia and a lot of people use it, and that is all they use. But I do not "get it."
