INTRODUCTION

The Pointcheval-Sanders signature scheme which was naned after its two founders and creators David Pointcheval and Oliver Sanders, is a technologically advanced cryptograhic protocol which was designed to offer and meet up with quite a number of demands and functions.

Like I said the pointcheval-sanders signature scheme is one that offers quite a number of useful features that makes it unique and some of these features includes increased security and enhanced privacy and also quite a number of signatures some of which includes aggregate signature, blind signature and threshold signature just to mention a few.

Therefore, in this post of mine I will be explaining and discussing some of the different modes of operations of the pointcheval-sanders cryptographic signature, exploring how each of this modes of operations significantly facilitate the increase in the efficiency and overall performance of the cryptocurrency ecosystem.

  • STANDARD SIGNATURE MODE

The Standard Signature, is the first mode of operation in which I will be considering today, this mode of operation is basically used for the authentication of a message or transaction, it practically involves three processes which is the generation of keys process, the signing of a transaction process and the verification of a signed message or transaction.

The key generation process has to do with the creation and distribution of two corresponding keys, one known as the private key and the other public key, the private is used in the second process for signing a message or transaction while the second key that is the public key is used in the third process for verifying the validity of a signed message or transaction.

If you notice I mentioned that the two keys the private and the public are corresponding keys, more like a pair because it is only with the private key corresponding public key can you verify the authenticity of the private key, so the signer keeps is private key private but shares his public key to the verifier for the purpose of verification.

  • MULTI-MESSAGE MODE

For the purpose of this post, the second mode of operation in which we will be talking about today is the multi-message signature mode of operation which was introduced for the purpose of adding to the features of the pointcheval-sanders signature scheme which practically allows a single signature to be able to simultaneously verify the authenticity of multiple messages and transactions in the blockchain network.

How this feature of simultaneously authenticating multiple signature at once is faciliteted is quite similar to that of the standard signature which authenticate just one at a time by generating the corresponding private and public key the only difference is that before the signing, all the messages are combined into one and then signed.

Additionally, this mode of simultaneously signing multiple messages increases and enhances the efficiency and overall performance of the cryptocurrency ecosystem by basically simplifying the signing and verification process and reducing the number of signatures that would have been required to sign all the messages by different signers one by one.

  • AGGREGATE SIGNATURE MODE

Aggregate signature mode of operation allows for multiple users or signers who intend to sign a single message to do so with one signature which is gotten by combining all the signatures of the users who intend to sign the message, this mode of operation is the different from the multi- message mode of operation because in the multi- message mode, the messages are combined while here the signatures are combined.

However, I guess you all might be wondering how it is that the verifier is going to verify the authenticity of this aggregated signature well, the verification is done by using all the public keys of everyone who signed the message.

Additionally, this mode of operation can be very helpful and come in handy especially in protocols or contracts requiring the consensus and agreement of multiple parties in written and signed format.

  • IN BLIND SIGNATURE MODE

Blind signature as the name implies is a pointcheval-sanders signature scheme that eliminates the need for a signer to see the contents or details of a message before or during signing, this method or mode of operation is very important especially in digital voting.

The type of signature is mainly used when the original owner of the message delegates his signing rights to someone else as a result, he blinds the content of the message before sending out to the signer to sign on his behalf, this message is verified by crosschecking the unblinded signature with the public key.
