Arithmetic Trick: Multiplying by 11

in #steemiteducation7 years ago

Hi all steemian friends, on this occasion, I would like to share another interesting basic trick of arithmetic, especially for students who want to master arithmetic. This trick is named as Multiplying by 11.

There are 11 children will be in the air balloon. The air balloon can only be ridden by children up to 800 pounds. Though each child weighs 63 pounds. Is the balloon capable of loading the eleven children? To solve this problem, we will do multiplication 63 x 11. Is the answer more than 800?

Here's the ways!

To multiply a two-digit number by the number 11, first write the two-digit number on the answer sheet, but divide the distance between the two digits. Then, add up the two numbers to that number. Write the results at the distance we have previously provided. Let us try to apply this trick to solve the above problem.

Let's try with another example!

Always remember! In the above example (76 x 11), the numbers 7 and 6 are added up to more than 9. Therefore, we have to "store" so that in step 4 we convert the numbers hundreds (7) to 8.

Let's practice again!

This is all about my explanation for this basic arithmetic trick, follow my post to get other arithmetic tricks, that I will explain in my next post. Hopefully, this article useful for me personally and for you all.
