Arithmetic Trick: Multiplication by division of 2

in #steemiteducation7 years ago

Hi all steemian friends, on this occasion, I would like to share another interesting basic trick of arithmetic, especially for students who want to master arithmetic. This trick is named as Multiplication by division of 2.

You just spent your summer vacation at your uncle's house. Every morning you get the job of taking the eggs in the chicken coop. By the end of July, the chickens had laid as many as nine dozen eggs. What is the number of eggs of the nine dozen? To find out the answer, we will do a 9 x 12 multiplication (one dozen equals 12 grains).

Here's the ways!

If one of the numbers in the multiplication operation has two digits, try dividing the large number into two. Let's try this way to find out the answer to the above question.

Let's try with another example!

Always remember! In the three examples, we divide the numbers 12, 18 and 24 into two. To know the result, try multiply the 2 numbers 54, 72 and 144. So, the smarter we multiply a number by two, the easier it is we apply this trick.

Let's practice again!

This is all about my explanation for this basic arithmetic trick, follow my post to get other arithmetic tricks, that I will explain in my next post. Hopefully, this article useful for me personally and for you all.

That's too long of a way. I like your "15" better. I think with this one if someone knows what 9x6 is then they are sure to know 9x2 (carrying the "1"). To me, this seems like it would be more confusing.
Maybe, for instance, the first one 9x12. Just do 9x10 then 9x2, add those together. The 5x22 could be 20x5 + 2x5 or 10x5+10x5+2x5. That seems easier to me.

Nice explanation buddy! Thanks a lot for your nice comment. I like the way of your multiplication. Thanks for sharing buddy!

9 x 12

12 x 10 = 120

-12 = 108

=P

Nice one, very simple, I like it. Thanks for sharing.
