Who are the Moroccan artists whose works are snapped up for gold? Overview of their most popular canvases.
1- Abbas Saladi: a fantastic record
With his dreamlike paintings, he marked, from the 1980s, a white stone creation in Morocco. In June 2015, it is no surprise that the painter, who died in 1992 at the age of 41, broke a sales record with L'Offrande. The table was sold at 4.1 million dirhams during a sale organized in duplex between the Parisian auction house Million and the Tango Mazad & Art. Until today, The Offering is the most expensive work of the history of art in Morocco.
2- Ahmed Cherkaoui: the abstract cash

Died at the age of 33 years in 1967, Ahmed Cherkaoui entered, thanks to his works, to the Pantheon of the major Moroccan painters. It is the rarity of his abstract paintings on the market that made his coast leap. Two of his most expensive paintings were awarded to the CMOOA for 3.5 million dirhams each. First in May 2013 with Talisman rouge and Miriam then in May 2014 with A SHÂB-AL-FIL.
3- Jilali Gharbaoui : de la misère à la gloire posthume

Death penniless on a public bench in 1971 in Paris at the age of 41 (according to what has been reported), the works of Jilali Gharbaoui are snapping up today at astronomical prices. His most expensive painting is hatching. This abstract painting was awarded to more than 2.5 million dirhams in Paris in October 2015. A record for the modern painter. The sale was jointly organized by the auction house Cornette de Saint Cyr and the Maison des Arts.
4- Mounir Fatmi: "Million Dollar Baby"
Proudly topping the list of the best-selling Moroccan contemporary artists, the 46-year-old artist Mounir Fatmi is the exception in the field of painters. Working under the axis language, architecture and machine (including religious), the works of Fatmi often unleash the passions. Her prayer mat collage Sonia Sonia Sonia was awarded for more than 2.2 million dirhams. The sale was completed in December 2011 by Sotheby's Doha.
5- Mohamed Kacimi: body for sale

A true figure of modern art, the painter Mohamed Kacimi, who died in 2003, remains a safe bet for collectors. His canvases, very often related to the body and its environment, are minted at a high price. His most cherished work Shéhérazade or the memory of Nour was sold in May 2014 to the Moroccan Company of Works and Objects of Art (CMOOA) for 2.1 million dirhams.
