Anniversary SMS is 25 years old

In 1992, for the first time, engineers managed to send a small message with a mobile phone.
It is more than a habit, a reflex, a mania, an addiction, the SMS has become in 25 years an essential mode of communication. Billions of text messages circulate every second in the world and on average, the French send a dozen per day.
Cultural anchored SMS

The SMS (for Short Message Service) arrives at home in 1997. At the time, nobody believes, yet quickly, the text is needed before the phone call and invent a language. Researchers and linguists have even worked on this small orthographic revolution. And SMS has become so much a part of our culture that the misunderstandings of texting are even taking off from film roles, such as in the movie The Meaning of the Party, with Jean-Pierre Bacri. 25 years after its birth, the SMS is a product still in good shape and is currently resistant to its younger competitors like Messenger or Whatsapp.
