Generating electricity from water.

in #celestialchallenge7 years ago (edited)

Hey everyone, it's a good day today for the #celestialchallenge initiated by @sirknight and today is about the forces of nature.
Moving water as a force of nature has being harnessed by man in so many ways and one of the most important areas is electricity generation.

Hydroelectricity is generated by using high velocity moving water from water bodies to power turbines which in turn power electricity generators.
Dams are built against the water bodies to build up the pressure. An inlet is made below the dam where the pressure is highest to allow the water moving at a high velocity flow in through an opening and then turn the blades of a turbine which is connected by a shaft to the generator. The generated electricity is distributed afterwards to the various power stations for further distribution.

This is more likely a clean source of energy generation compared to generation through fossil fuels.

Here is a GIF showing the process of generating hydro electricity.

Great enlightenment sir!

Thank you bruv.

Please i would love to know if a dam can be built anywhere?

No. There has to be a large volume of water like that of a river or a sea in order for a dam to be constructed around or across it.

Nice one bruh, the kainji dam is the primary source of power generation here in Nigeria. Keep up the good work.
Cheers

The kainji dam provides most of Nigeria's electricity as well as the shiroro dam both located in Niger state. Thanks bruv for coming around.

The GIF is much appreciated. Thanks for this bro.

I'm glad it is quite illustrative and simple enough for readers to grasp. Thank you for coming around bruv.

Really educative, hopefully my country Nigeria could get enough revenue to generate more power from our dams

Nigeria has enough revenue to construct more dams to support the already existing ones and also generate more electricity. Hopefully the funds would be put to good use. Thanks for stopping by.

I really want to see desalinization tech take off as well.

This has already started in Isreal. It provides most of their water needs. If this could be extended to Africa it would go a long way in providing water for the people.

Israel is pretty innovative and I would love to be a part of a project like that for Africa.

Yes Isreal is quite innovative. I would really love to visit there some day.
For you to want to be a part of a project that involves providing water for African communities shows you are a man who has the interest and well being of people at heart.

This is truly educative. I never knew how the whole dam process function till I came upon this post. Thanks so much for this information great Engineer

You're very welcome my friend. The process of Hydroelectricity generation is quite simple and easy to understand. I'm glad you could learn about it from this little post.

@sahrodion. This is gbam!!! I love the pictures. God bless you

Am impressed! Welldone dear

This is lovely. You did well @sahrodion. Fantastic
