A trip to my "Home town" part 1!
Happy wednesday 😊
Hope your week is treating you well and that you don't work to hard, take time to breathe!
I had another trip with my parents and this time to my birth town Ystad that still is my "Home town" at heart 😉
It has much to offer and I never get tired of going "Home"
I will make it in parts as we went to 3 places and to make it justice each part deserve a post of its own 😜 lol
In this post we are walking around in the city and looking at some of our favorite spots, I will try to tell you a little something of each spot so you can se the whole picture 😉
The klosterdam in middle of the city
next to the monastery church and museum.
I spended much time here at the benches in my school year with my friends on our breaks, feeding the ducks or just relax and look at People passing by 😁 lol
Here is a great place to relax and take a coffe just looking at the pond and people.
Beautiful wiew and I saw a new scoulpture that I never seen before, apparantly just got there according to my parents.
I had to take a closer look and se what it said on the stone.

The Longing artwork was created in the mid-1950s.
Ivar Ålenius-Björk was born in Malmö and educated there at Skånska painting school.
He also studied at the Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen.
Through his modern design, he was represented at the prestigious New York World Exhibition in 1939.
Ivar Ålenius-Björk is also known for his collaboration with Ystad Metall, perhaps especially for the design classic, the candlestick Liljan.
He is represented with public works of art in i.a. Malmö, Lund and Ängelholm.
He also made many portrait busts.

My hometown is known for its many amazing half-timbered houses, you can see them everywhere.
Here's one that stands out and has cool history on its Wall like in many buildings in this town.
August Körling (1842−1919)
Sven August Körling was born in Misterhult, County of Kalmar, on 14 April 1842 and died in Ystad on 21 October 1929.
He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music, Stockholm, from 1855 onwards.
In 1866 he began working as a music teacher and organist in Ystad, where he helped bring about an upturn in musical activity through the formation of a music society and, together with Salomon Smith, an orchestral society.
He wrote solo songs and choral compositions, as well as a number of instrumental works, mainly for small forces.
And here is the monastery church that also has museum.
It's a beautiful church and has many parts, looks a bit majestic don’t you agree? 😉
St. Petri Church or the Abbey Church is a church building in the northeastern part of the city center of Ystad.
It belongs to Ystad's parish in Lund's diocese. Outside the monastery there is a rose garden and a herb garden.
In 2002, the rose garden was erected in the heart of the monastery courtyard designed by the artist Maria Björklund.
She chose St. Catherine's Wheel as a starting point because St. Catherine was one of the gray saints' most important saints.
There are even a badass miniatyr of the church and museum, and here you can get a better picture of what it looks like all together.
The church was started in 1267 and forms part of the old gray brothers convent in Ystad.
The church was the southern part of the surrounding monastery.
It is a brick church typical of the gray brothers. In the Middle Ages, the church was associated with Saint Nicholas and Catherine of Alexandria.
At the end of the 15th century the grand west wall and the bell tower were erected.
During the Reformation, the monks were thrown out in 1532.
The monastery became a hospital, a distillery and a warehouse while the church became a regular parish church.
In 1600, the northern and western lakes of the monastery were demolished and now only ruins of these remains.
In 1908-1912 what was left of the monastery buildings was restored.
Today, the eastern part of Ystad's city museum is used.
In 1967 the municipality took over the monastery church and had a renovation done. Today, the church is used both for worship and for museum activities.
And here is the entry to the museum part which I will share with you in my next post 😉
So lets take a walk and se some more... Hope you still with me 😜 lol
After the church and pond , we walked towards the brook horse, a popular coffee place in the summer.
Like so many other places here, there are many alleys and I love going here.
And here is the spot where you cross to get to the brook horse that looks much different in summer with all people and tables!
And here is the beautiful entry and exit, depends on what way you coming from.. Lol
The Brook horse restaurant is located in one of the characteristic cross-country houses in central Ystad.
It is open from May to August every day from 10 am to 6 pm.
Here is a large selection of meat dishes, fish dishes, salads, sandwiches, pasta and much more - there is something for everyone!
Now it was time to eat so we kept going, and we saw much along the way but will share more in next post 😉
We did some window shopping.. Lol
Just looking and wondered what our nephews might like... Lol
Then came the step... A welcome sight as this is where you walk in to the restaurang we were going to eat.
Restaurang Le Cardinal
Pizza and pub
A beautiful place to eat and the People working there is just amazing 😊🙏
My precious parents waiting for their pizza.
And belive me... It's SOOO worth the wait cause their pizza is just delicious 🤩😋 nom yummy... Best there is!
This is mine and its a Capriocciosa super 😋
Then we left the restaurang all stuffed and happy 😁 lol
And as you can se already dark, so that will end this post.
Stay tuned for part 2, which is at the museum!
I will share one last picture with you tho as I pass those water tower every time I drive to my home town, and it is another thing that is known in this town!
Ystad's old water tower, which was built in 1915, had served out in the mid-60s and new towers rose to the skies in 1965.
The following year, the two combined towers were ready for operation.
However, the frost had left its mark in the casting work and the towers leaked water like a sieve.
Now two ugly concrete chunks stood on Ystad's highest and most visible place, despite the fact that they did their best to welcome visitors to Ystad with their startling supervision.
There was a serving at the top which was initially quite well attended and it was said if you were standing up there you could see when the trains left Malmö.
This could also be done for the serving owner Tage Andersson had a train timetable set up on the wall.
Over the years, some attempts have been made to revive the serving, but no one has unfortunately succeeded, i.a. f. not with any long-term business.
Ystad was known for having among the best drinking water in Sweden.
The water comes from an "inscrutable" source in Nedraby.
The water was so attractive that for a time in the 90s it was sold in stores for SEK 5 / liter.
The illuminated towers are something that the Ystad residents are undeniably very proud of, it is particularly noticeable when any lamp is broken or, as ever, an entire tower extinguished.
Then the on-call holders in the municipality are called down by the patriotic Ystad residents and measures are put in place directly so that the towers will not become a extinguished star in the Ystad sky again.
That was part 1 folks an I'm sorry if I got a little carried away, but I wanted you to se my town and a little history of buildings that I grew up with 😊 and more is to come.
Thank you for sharing this with me and hope you liked it!
Have a fabulous evening!
Thank you all for being so amazing and supportive, means alot 🙏
Don’t forget to Stay Awsome and be YOU!
